What are the functions and effects of tocopherol

Tocopherol is vitamin E (Ve). Natural tocopherol is d-tocopherol (right-hand type). It has 8 isomers, including α, β, ϒ, δ, etc. Among them, α-tocopherol has the strongest activity. D-mixed-tocopherol concentrate used as an antioxidant is a mixture of various isomers of natural tocopherol. Tocopherol is a natural oil-soluble antioxidant currently produced in large quantities. It is widely used in whole milk powder, cream or margarine, meat products, aquatic products, dehydrated vegetables, fruit juice drinks, frozen foods and convenience foods, etc., especially tocopherol is an antioxidant and nutritional fortifier for baby food, therapeutic food, fortified food, etc.

Function and Use

Increase the antioxidant effect of cells, maintain and promote reproductive function. It has certain anti-aging effects, and can also improve lipid metabolism, prevent arteriosclerosis and lower blood lipids.

It is often used to prevent habitual abortion and threatened abortion, as well as to treat menopausal syndrome. Used as an adjuvant treatment for hepatitis, cirrhosis and muscular dystrophy.

Dosage and administration : 5mg or 50mg per tablet, 2 to 3 times a day, 10 to 100mg each time.

Side effects and precautions : Adverse reactions are rare at normal doses. Long-term and large-scale use for more than half a year may cause nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal dysfunction, headache, dizziness, blurred vision, menstrual disorders, and some patients may experience prolonged coagulation time.

Vitamin E refers to a group of compounds that includes tocopherols and tocotrienols. Among the various forms of VE, gamma-tocopherol is the most common. It is found in corn oil, soybean oil, butter, and some condiments. α-Tocopherol is the most biologically active form of VE and the second most common form of VE in the North American diet (γ-tocopherol is first). It is commonly found in safflower oil, pumpkin seed oil and wheat germ oil. α-Tocopherol is a fat-soluble antioxidant that can effectively prevent the formation of reactive oxygen species during fat oxidation. If you consume more than 1000 mg per day, you may suffer from vitamin E hypervitaminosis.
