Are there any side effects of the contraceptive patch? Who should not use it?

In order to reduce the chance of unwanted pregnancy, many young couples do not use intrauterine devices, but instead use external auxiliary means. The contraceptive patch is now a common contraceptive technique. However, it should be noted that the contraceptive patch is not suitable for everyone. Patients with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases cannot use it, nor can they be used by those who are breastfeeding or preparing to become pregnant, or smokers over 35 years old.

Not suitable for people

1. Smokers over 35 years old

2. Women who are preparing to become pregnant

3. Lactating women

4. Women with cardiovascular or thrombotic diseases[1]

Overview

Contraceptive patch (English name: Contraceptive patch) is a new type of female contraceptive tool, but it is different from condoms. Contraceptive patches allow drugs to penetrate the skin and enter the body in the form of patches, producing a contraceptive effect.

Material

Generally, the contraceptive patches currently on the market are made of plasters containing medicinal ingredients.

Appearance

The appearance is similar to a dog-skin plaster, but smaller than a dog-skin plaster. The patch is about seven square centimeters, about half the size of a business card, like a small flesh-colored sticker. It is divided into three layers: the top layer is a plastic film protective layer, the middle layer has adhesive and medicine, and the bottom layer is base paper.

How to use

Generally, it is stuck on four places of the human body: buttocks, abdomen, outside of arms and outside of shoulders. It is forbidden to stick it on the chest.

Use it once on the first day of menstruation or the first Sunday of menstruation, and replace it on the same day of each week thereafter. It must be used for three consecutive weeks. No need to use in the fourth week.

How it works

The drug penetrates the skin into the body, inhibits the release of eggs, and thickens the cervical mucus of women, making it more difficult for sperm to enter the uterus, thereby achieving a contraceptive effect.

advantage

It is easier to use, has better compliance, and reduces nausea and vomiting.
