How to treat incontinence? This method is the most effective

As people age, they are more likely to suffer from incontinence, which usually happens in middle-aged and elderly people. This is caused by the bladder being emptied. Incontinence can be improved through daily care, including keeping the anus and reproductive organs clean, and scrubbing the urethra frequently to keep it clean.

How to deal with incontinence?

1. Skin care

Good skin care is extremely important for patients with anal incontinence and bedridden patients. The most preventive measures still focus on reducing pressure, changing body positions, strengthening nutrition, paying attention to hygiene and preventing infection. For those with incontinence, they should also pay attention to keeping the local area clean. They should frequently scrub the perineum, the skin around the anus and the inner thighs with warm water. They can sprinkle talcum powder to keep the area dry. Keep bed sheets and clothes dry, clean, flat and wrinkle-free. Change them when they are wet. Replace contaminated clothing in time to avoid complications caused by irritation from excrement. If there is redness around the anus, apply zinc oxide ointment to make it astringent, and use soft paper or clean old cloth to separate the buttocks on both sides to avoid friction between them and aggravate the rupture of the wound.

2. Psychological care

Dealing with fecal incontinence in the elderly is not a simple hygiene consideration. When they experience loss of rectal function, they often have a gray mentality of being unable to talk about it, feeling depressed, withdrawn, and afraid of being discovered. This mentality will make them mentally decadent and their social adaptability further deteriorate. Therefore, when dealing with incontinence problems in the elderly, we should try our best to take into account the psychological condition of the elderly and avoid causing them to have adverse psychological burdens.

Urinary and fecal incontinence can be divided into the following situations according to the cause.

1. Stress incontinence

Almost one in five women over the age of 40 experience this type of incontinence, which is caused by increased pressure in the abdomen and the inability of the bladder sphincter and pelvic bones to keep the bladder tight. Stress incontinence usually occurs when a person laughs, coughs, sneezes, or exercises.

2. Bladder allergy

If the bladder muscles spasm uncontrollably, the bladder may suddenly empty and cause incontinence. This is also what we often call bladder allergy.

3. Severe constipation

Because stool blocks the intestines, when laxatives pass through the blockage, they can cause incontinent diarrhea.

4. Infection

A kidney or urinary tract infection can affect your bladder's ability to control itself properly.

5. Nerve tissue damage

Incontinence can also occur due to damage to the nervous system, such as spinal cord damage or some diseases such as multiple sclerosis.

6. Disease

Disease not only impairs human function but also increases the risk of incontinence. Tumors in the rectum or anus can cause fecal incontinence.
