What are the hazards of nucleus pulposus removal

Many clinical diseases require surgery to treat, and lumbar disease is also a common clinical disease. This causes great distress to patients and has a great impact on their bodies and lives. The therapeutic effect of nucleus pulposus removal on lumbar disc herniation is very obvious and can improve the patient's lumbar spine disease problems. However, it should be noted that nucleus pulposus removal also has harm to the human body.

1. Low back pain

After the nucleus pulposus is removed, the integrity of the annulus fibrosus is destroyed, the pressure within the intervertebral disc drops sharply, the cruciate ligaments of the annulus fibrosus between the vertebral bodies relax, the intervertebral disc collapses, and flexion, extension and axial rotation instability occurs. Therefore, after the nucleus pulposus is removed, when the lumbar spine moves in the sagittal plane, part of the load originally borne by the intervertebral disc is added to the facet joints, resulting in a significant increase in the force on the facet joint surfaces. Especially during extension, the small joints are subjected to great force. Therefore, after disc surgery, you should try to avoid extension movements to prevent excessive stress on the small joints, wear and tear, or even fractures, which can cause low back pain.

2. Relapse

After treatment and rest, patients with lumbar disc herniation can have their symptoms relieved or cured, but the recurrence rate of the disease is quite high. Although many patients are reluctant, they often become "repeat customers" who "visit" the doctor. Although the nucleus pulposus of the segment has been removed after the operation, the stability of the spine above and below the segment is poor after the operation. Therefore, the intervertebral discs above and below the surgical segment are prone to prolapse, leading to the recurrence of lumbar disc herniation.

3. The most important measure to prevent recurrence is prevention

In daily life, study and work, we need various different activity postures and develop our own habits. Whether their correctness has an important impact on the human body. Therefore, we are required to pay attention to the rationality of our usual standing, sitting, working and sleeping postures, correct bad postures and habits, strengthen exercise, enhance physical fitness, especially strengthen the functional training of the waist and back muscles. Because proper exercise can improve muscle blood circulation, promote metabolism, increase muscle responsiveness and strength, loosen soft tissue adhesions, correct the imbalance of the spine's internal and external balance, and improve the stability, flexibility and durability of the lumbar spine, thereby playing a good therapeutic and preventive role.
