Most cacti are shallow-rooted plants. Some of them that grow tuberous roots need deeper pots, otherwise they should use shallow and wide-mouthed pots. When choosing a pot, it should not be too large. It should be sufficient to choose one that is one size larger than the original pot. Only when the size of the pot is not coordinated with the cactus or the roots have grown out of the pot, you need to replace it with a larger pot. When replacing the soil, loose, breathable and fertile sandy loam should be used. Clay soil should not be used.

When changing soil and repotting, remove some of the old soil and add new soil. When it is half filled, tap the pot a few times to reduce the space between the soil and the pot. When it is full, press it lightly with your hands a few times, water it thoroughly, and then maintain it normally. If the roots are accidentally broken or damaged when repotting, do not water them for the time being. It is not too late to water them after 3-5 days. If the roots were not damaged when repotting, and you just changed to a larger pot and filled it with culture soil, you can water them in time, which will help the roots to adapt to the pot. But try not to apply fertilizer for the time being, just use clean water.

The cactus is covered with thorns. You can wrap it with a towel, cloth or newspaper to avoid being stabbed. When pulling it out, try to get close to the base of the cactus so that if the thorn breaks, it will not be too obvious.

If the original planting soil is sandy and gravelly, the sand and gravel will fall off automatically when you pull it up. If the soil contains more mud, you may need to gently tap the pot to successfully remove it from the pot. Detailed steps: ~ First stop watering the plant until the soil is completely dry~ Carefully shake off most of the soil, then use your hands to carefully remove the soil left on the roots~ Use toilet paper to absorb the moisture on the roots~ Place in a ventilated place where the sun can't reach to dry~ Only keep the thick roots - if the thick roots have reached the bottom of the pot, leave the thick roots about half the depth of the pot, and cut off the rest~ After cutting, still place in a ventilated place to dry the wound in the shade~ After the wound is dry, place it in scattered light and let it recover slowly. Wait until new roots grow out before potting ~ Potting - slowly resume watering after a few days of adaptation. The above is for cacti, the treatment method for succulents is slightly different. Cacti can be propagated by cuttings all year round, but May to June is the most suitable time.

Cactus is resistant to drought and barrenness and avoids waterlogging. Therefore, the soil must be breathable and have good drainage properties. However, the soil for raising the sub-plants should be slightly moist, as it will be difficult for them to take root if it is too dry. It can be prepared with 4 parts of coarse river sand, 3 parts of loam, and then vermiculite, perlite, etc.

First of all, you need to make sure that the mother plant is free of disease and pests before proceeding. Make sure the cutting knife is not rusted, then disinfect it with alcohol, and select strong and mature sub-plants from healthy mother plants as cuttings. Before and after each cutting, the knife should be wiped and disinfected repeatedly.

The cuttings should not be planted immediately after being cut. They should be placed in a relatively dry place indoors for 5-7 days to dry, and then planted after the incision is dry and the stem flesh begins to shrink. ~ Bury the base of the cuttings shallowly in the soil. Burying it too deep may cause rot, while burying it too shallow may make it difficult to stand firmly (because the stem flesh begins to shrink). You can slightly lift the sand to fix the position of the cuttings.

When watering, water from the side of the pot; keep the soil moist, but do not water directly onto the cuttings. To reduce water evaporation, cover the pot with a plastic bag. The cuttings will take root in about a month, at which time the plastic bag should be removed immediately. In addition, before rooting, it needs to be protected from direct sunlight and should be placed in semi-shaded place for maintenance. After rooting, water and light can also be maintained in the normal way.
