What are the symptoms of qi deficiency and blood deficiency

What are the symptoms of qi deficiency and blood deficiency

With the gradual improvement of living standards, people have begun to pay attention to their physical health. In traditional Chinese medicine, the symptoms of qi and blood deficiency are taken seriously. The human body is in the best state only when qi and blood are not needed. However, in life, women are more prone to qi deficiency and blood deficiency, which is relatively harmful to women's bodies, so timely conditioning is necessary. Now let’s talk about the symptoms of qi deficiency and blood deficiency in women.

1. Skin

The nourishing effect of Qi and blood on the skin is brilliantly explained in the Suwen Evil Qi and Organ Disease Forms Chapter: "The twelve meridians and three hundred and sixty-five collaterals, their Qi and blood all flow up to the face and run through the empty orifices." In other words, the meridians transport the essence of Qi and blood to the skin, and the skin is nourished and becomes rosy; when Qi and blood circulate normally and nourish the skin, the skin becomes sensitive. If the production of Qi and blood is insufficient or its circulation is obstructed, it will manifest as dull or sallow skin, dry skin, and abnormal sensations.

2. Eyes

Mainly look at the color and clarity of the eyes. Clear, bright and energetic eyes indicate sufficient Qi and blood; cloudy and yellowish whites of the eyes indicate insufficient Qi and blood in the liver; large bags under the eyes indicate insufficient spleen function; dry eyes and heavy eyelids also represent local Qi and blood deficiency; dull, dark and lifeless eyes are a sign of Qi and blood exhaustion.

3. Hair

The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine records the hair growth process as follows: when people are seven or eight years old, their hair starts to grow long due to the abundance of kidney qi; when they are around thirty years old, their hair starts to grow very long due to the fullness of kidney qi; when they are around forty years old, their hair starts to fall due to the gradual deficiency of qi and blood; and after the age of fifty, their hair starts to turn white due to the decline of kidney qi. This shows that the growth of hair comes from the nourishment of Qi and blood. If Qi and blood are abundant, the hair grows normally. If Qi and blood are insufficient, they cannot reach the head and cause the hair to turn white and fall easily.

4. Hands

If the Qi and blood are sufficient, the hands are always warm. If the palms are hot, sweaty or cold, it means that the Qi and blood are insufficient. When the Qi and blood are deficient, the fingertips will become flat and weak or the fingertips will be thin. As the old saying goes: "Nails are the beauty of tendons and the residue of blood." If the nails are gray and dull, it may indicate that the body is lacking in qi and blood or suffering from a certain disease.

5. Sleep

Zhang Jingyue, a physician in the Ming Dynasty, said in his Jingyue Complete Works that those who cannot sleep even if there is no evil in the body must have insufficient blood circulation. If the blood is deficient, the heart cannot be nourished; if the heart is deficient, the spirit will not be able to stay in the body. Many people suffer from insomnia due to insufficient qi and blood, which is often manifested as difficulty falling asleep, easy awakening, frequent urination at night, snoring, etc. Loving to sleep too much is often a sign of qi and blood deficiency.

6. Gums

Teeth have the closest relationship with kidneys, therefore, if a person's teeth are not well developed, their kidneys are usually not well either. If an adult has sparse teeth, exposed tooth roots, or accompanied by pale and bleeding gums, yellow and withered teeth, and gum atrophy, it is mostly due to kidney deficiency. The kidney is the foundation of one's innate constitution, and kidney deficiency is often related to insufficient qi and blood.
