What is the reason for sudden blood in the stool

I believe everyone will be shocked when they see blood coming out of the toilet. This is blood in the stool, a very common symptom of digestive system disease. Of course, this can also be regarded as an alarm given by the body that there is a problem, otherwise why would there be blood in the stool? However, in daily life, people often do not take this situation seriously and think that there will be no problem. In fact, although it cannot be ruled out that it is just hemorrhoids, this is not a phenomenon unique to hemorrhoids. Other diseases can also cause blood in the stool, such as the frightening colorectal cancer and colon cancer. Therefore, we should not only pay necessary attention to the problem of blood in the stool, but also have a basic understanding of the causes of sudden blood in the stool and what diseases cause it.

Nine diseases that cause blood in stool:

1. Hemorrhoids, anal fissures, or anal fistulas

The blood is usually bright red, does not mix with the stool, and does not contain mucus. It manifests as blood dripping after defecation, which is more likely to occur when the stool is hard.

2. Bacillary dysentery

The stool is often bloody and pus-like, with a small amount each time, often accompanied by a feeling of tenesmus; in the chronic stage, there are intermittent episodes of mucus, pus and blood in the stool.

3. Amebic dysentery

The stools are mostly jam-like or dark red, with large amounts and often accompanied by purulent mucus. Patients often have fever, abdominal distension, abdominal pain and tenesmus.

4. Schistosomiasis

There is a history of contact with infected water, which often manifests as chronic diarrhea, pus-like or bloody stools.

5. Ulcerative colitis

During the attack, there is abdominal pain and diarrhea, often accompanied by tenesmus. The stool is generally mucus, pus and bloody, and in severe cases it may be bloody and watery.

6. Intussusception

The stool contains mucus and blood, often without stool.

7. Rectal cancer

If you suffer from chronic diarrhea or recurrent episodes of bloody, mucopurulent stools, accompanied by tenesmus, and general anti-inflammatory treatments are ineffective, the possibility of rectal cancer should be considered.

8. Colon cancer

When the stool becomes thinner and is accompanied by mucus, pus and blood, colon cancer should be suspected. A small number of patients may only experience fixed abdominal pain.

9. Rectal and colon polyps

When there are polyps in the rectum, sigmoid colon or descending colon, there will be fresh blood attached to the stool, and the blood and stool are not mixed.

There are many diseases accompanied by bloody stools, the most frightening of which are rectal and anal canal cancer and malignant transformation of rectal and colon polyps. Rectal ulcers, proctitis, and ulcerative colitis may also cause a small amount of blood in the stool, and bleeding during dysentery is often accompanied by severe diarrhea. Many people think that blood in the stool is hemorrhoids, so they don’t pay much attention to it, and sometimes even miss the diagnosis of the above diseases. Therefore, before confirming hemorrhoids, you should always think about the possibility of the above diseases.
