The difference between leek and chives

The difference between leek and chives

Chives and leeks are both vegetables we often eat, but many people easily confuse the two. Some people even think that they are the same vegetable. In fact, there are certain differences between leeks and chives. Everyone has eaten leeks, and the taste is usually quite strong. Many people don’t like to eat them, but leeks taste much lighter. There are also many ways to eat leeks and leeks. The following introduces the difference between leeks and leeks.

The difference between chives and leeks

1. Different colors caused by the growing environment

Chinese chives: commonly known as "leek white", it grows from the perennial roots of leeks and is a product of leeks that turn yellow after softening and cultivation. Because it grows completely in a dark environment without sunlight and cannot produce chlorophyll, it appears translucent light yellow-white and its nutritional value is inferior to that of leeks.

Chives: They grow in an environment with sufficient sunlight and undergo sufficient photosynthesis, so they are lush green and rich in nutritional value.

2. Different edible values, effects and contraindications

Chinese chives: The main effects are treating empty heat in the stomach and cold pain in the abdomen. Long-term consumption helps treat intestinal problems and can relieve symptoms such as constipation and diarrhea. Chives are relatively mild in nature and there are not many people who should avoid taking them.

Leek: Also known as "yang-enhancing grass", it is a spicy and warm thing that replenishes yang, nourishes the liver and kidneys, and has the effect of strengthening yang. It is precisely because leek is a yang food that eating too much can easily cause getting angry, so it should not be consumed in excess, especially people with body heat should pay attention to eating less. In addition, leeks are rich in dietary fiber, which can wrap up sand, hair, metal fragments, etc. accidentally ingested in the digestive tract and excrete them out of the body. Therefore, it is also given the reputation of "intestinal cleansing grass".

3. Different prices

Due to the special growing environment of leek, its market price is usually slightly higher than that of leek.

5. Different cooking methods

Chives are a spicy vegetable that can be stir-fried, made into soup, grilled, or used as a condiment. Chives are softer than leeks, and scrambled eggs with chives taste very good, and they are easier to chew and swallow than leeks.
