What is the reason for hand tremors?

I believe that many friends will find that some people in life have hand tremors, and most of them are elderly people. There are many reasons for hand tremors, such as brain dysfunction, anxiety, Parkinson's disease, etc. These conditions can cause uncontrollable hand tremors. If it is because of anxiety, you might as well relax first, but if this situation still occurs, it is recommended to seek medical attention in time. Hand tremors actually have a great impact on normal life. For example, the hands cannot grasp things normally or perform some activities flexibly.

What causes hand tremors in the elderly? Five possible diseases

1. Brain dysfunction

Cerebral arteriosclerosis, poor cerebral blood supply, and brain cell degeneration affect physiological functions. This often manifests as hand tremors with minor movements, which are more obvious when writing, and are mostly on one side. Tremors do not necessarily occur when performing large movements involving rough work. If a blood vessel is blocked, in addition to hand tremors, there will also be corresponding neurological deficits. The symptoms of hand tremors will worsen with age and the worsening of vascular sclerosis.

2. Anticipatory Anxiety

This type of question often creates a situation that the patient feels frightened about. For example, you may be very worried that your hands will shake when other people are around you at work, and then when someone comes in front of you, your hands actually shake. In anticipatory anxiety disorder, anxiety about symptoms that cause a psychological response can exacerbate or lead to the onset of symptoms. The onset of symptoms further intensifies anticipatory anxiety, thus forming a vicious cycle. You are trapped in this vicious cycle and cannot extricate yourself. From this we can see that what you are really afraid of is fear itself.

3. Cerebellar hemisphere diseases

It can be caused by tumors, cerebellar atrophy, and insufficient blood supply to the brain. This type of hand tremor is characterized by intention tremor, that is, it does not tremble when at rest but occurs during movement. When asked to point to the tip of the nose, the hand trembles and the pointing is inaccurate. It may also be accompanied by nystagmus, a drunken gait, uncoordinated movements, and occasional tinnitus and deafness.

4. Essential Tremor

The cause of this disease is unknown and it mainly affects the upper limbs and head. The main symptom is hand tremors when doing fine movements, such as writing, holding chopsticks, buttoning, etc. Hand tremors are more obvious when you are emotionally nervous or tired, and they are reduced or disappear completely when you relax or rest. Symptoms may be alleviated after drinking alcohol. Neurological examination was unremarkable except for hand tremor.

5. Parkinson's disease

This is a degenerative disease that occurs in the elderly. In addition to hand tremors, it is also accompanied by symptoms such as slow movements, limb stiffness, and poor balance. If not treated, symptoms will become more severe. This disease requires the help of a specialist to diagnose and treat. It is also one of the extrapyramidal diseases of the brain. The lesions are located in the basal ganglia of the thalamus deep in the brain, and are mainly caused by a lack of dopamine. Typical symptoms are involuntary tremors in one or both upper limbs, especially the distal ends, which worsen when nervous or excited and disappear when quiet. They are also accompanied by slow movements, slow reactions, stiff joints, clumsy hands and feet, and unstable gait.
