What are the symptoms of liver edema

What are the symptoms of liver edema

The liver is an important part of the human body. When the liver is abnormal, the symptoms are very obvious. Generally speaking, some liver diseases may also cause liver edema, which has a great impact on human health. Therefore, we must pay attention to symptomatic treatment of the problem of liver edema. So what are the specific symptoms of liver edema?

1. Chills and high fever

It is often the earliest symptom and is also the most common symptom. At the beginning of the disease, the patient suddenly feels chills, followed by high fever. The fever is mostly remittent, with body temperature between 38 and 40°C, and up to 41°C. The alternation of chills and fever is accompanied by heavy sweating, increased pulse rate, and repeated attacks several times a day.

2. Pain in the liver area

Inflammation causes liver enlargement, leading to acute expansion of the liver capsule and persistent dull pain in the liver area; the pain may occur before or after other symptoms, or at the same time as other symptoms. Severe pain often indicates single edema; edema is persistent dull pain in the early stages and often sharp pain in the later stages. The pain worsens with breathing and often indicates edema at the top of the liver diaphragm; sometimes the pain can radiate to the right shoulder, and left liver edema can also radiate to the left shoulder.

3. Fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting

Due to the systemic toxic reactions and continued consumption, gastrointestinal symptoms such as fatigue, poor appetite, nausea and vomiting are more common. A small number of patients will show more serious symptoms such as mental depression in the short term, and a small number of patients will experience symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal distension, or more stubborn hiccups.

4. Note

For patients with severe ascites caused by liver edema, a salt-free diet should be chosen. When the ascites is reduced, a low-salt diet can be chosen. Supplement adequate nutrients. Because liver edema causes the body's nutrient absorption to deteriorate, special attention should be paid to eating vegetables and fruits, and avoiding eating overly rough foods, which can cause gastrointestinal bleeding.
