Left rib fracture

Left rib fracture

If you accidentally fracture your left ribs, you should go to the hospital for an X-ray so that you can develop a treatment plan that suits you. Most patients should take some anti-inflammatory drugs when they first fracture, and may also need painkillers when necessary. These are all to prevent the pain from becoming unbearable and to improve their symptoms.

Functional exercise is an important part of fracture treatment and an important condition for promoting fracture healing, preventing complications and restoring the function of the affected limb as soon as possible. Under the guidance of medical staff, give full play to the enthusiasm of patients, follow the principles of combining movement and stillness, the whole and the part, the active and the passive, and the stages and continuity, and carry out functional exercises and rehabilitation treatment as early as possible.

1. The early stage of fracture generally refers to the period within 1 to 2 weeks after injury. Because the affected limb is swollen and painful, and the fracture is prone to re-displacement, the purpose of functional exercise during this period is to promote blood circulation in the affected limb, eliminate swelling, and prevent muscle atrophy. Its main form is that the muscles of the affected limb perform contraction and relaxation activities, the upper and lower joints of the fracture are temporarily immobilized, and other joints of the body should undergo functional exercises.

2. The middle stage of fracture generally refers to a period of time 2 weeks after the fracture, when the swelling has basically subsided and the local pain has been relieved. Since the fracture ends have been connected by fibers and are becoming increasingly stable, the upper and lower joints of the fracture can be gradually moved with the help of medical staff or with the aid of a functional rehabilitation device. Move slowly and gently, gradually increasing the frequency, range of motion, and strength of the movements.

3. In the late stage of fracture, the fracture has reached the clinical healing standard and the internal and external fixation has been removed. The main form of functional exercise is to strengthen the active movement of the joints of the affected limbs, eliminate limb swelling and joint stiffness, and be supplemented by various physical and drug treatments to restore the normal range of motion and muscle strength of each joint as soon as possible.

IV. Auxiliary treatment

It is helpful for patients with fractures to carry out functional exercises and implement some auxiliary treatments to promote fracture healing. Common adjunctive treatments include:

1. Physical therapy commonly uses instruments based on electricity, heat, magnetism, light, waves, water, etc., which have certain effects on promoting fracture healing.

2. Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment is the traditional medicine of our country, which uses Chinese medicine, massage, and acupuncture as the main means to relax muscles and tendons, improve local blood circulation, and promote fracture healing.

3. Drug treatment is often used for the purpose of reducing inflammation, relieving pain and reducing swelling.

3. Nutritional therapy can also promote fracture healing by adjusting the diet and supplementing nutrients that are beneficial to fracture healing.
