What is the normal value of cholesterase?

What is the normal value of cholesterase?

Cholesterase is an indicator for detecting human liver diseases and is related to the health of the human body. Therefore, having a certain understanding of this can help us better ensure our own health. The normal values of cholesterase in men, women and children are different, and further understanding should be done for different populations.

1. Cholesterase

Cholesterase (ChE) is divided into acetylcholine esterase (AChE) and pseudocholeline esterase (PChE). AchE is mainly present in red blood cells, lungs, brain tissue, and sympathetic ganglia. Its main function is to hydrolyze acetylcholine; PChE is a glycoprotein synthesized by the rough endoplasmic reticulum of the liver and is mainly present in serum or plasma. The detection of serum ChE is mainly used to diagnose liver diseases and organophosphorus poisoning.

2. Normal value of cholesterase

Cholesterase is a detection indicator for severe hepatitis. Cholesterase will only be abnormal when liver cells are severely damaged. So how to determine whether cholesterase is normal? There are three standards for normal values of cholesterase. The normal values of cholesterase for men, women, and children are different, but these three normal values of cholesterase are used to reflect the liver function. Let us learn about it in detail below. (What are the symptoms of high cholesterol)? Experts from the Hunan Provincial Armed Police Corps Hospital pointed out that there are two methods to measure the normal value of cholesterase: colorimetric method: the normal value of cholesterase is 130-310U/L; (What does abnormal liver function in hepatitis B patients indicate) enzymatic method: the normal value of cholesterase is 4300-11500U/L for women (16-39 years old); 5410-32000U/L for children, adult males, and females (over 40 years old). Cholesterase is a detection indicator for severe hepatitis. Cholesterase will only be abnormal when liver cells are severely damaged. High or low cholesterase reflects different types of liver diseases. But whether cholesterase is high or low, it indicates a liver problem. Therefore, if cholesterase is abnormal, you should go to a regular liver disease specialist hospital for further examinations, comprehensively analyze the condition and actively treat it.

3. Symptoms of high or low levels of cholesterase

a. ChE activity increased

Increased chE activity is mainly seen in kidney disease, obesity, fatty liver, hyperthyroidism, etc., and can also be seen in schizophrenia, hemolytic anemia, megaloblastic anemia, etc.

b. Decreased ChE activity

Organophosphorus poisoning: Insecticides containing organophosphorus can inhibit ChE and reduce it, and PchE activity is often used clinically as a diagnostic and monitoring indicator for organophosphorus poisoning. A ChE activity lower than 50%-70% of the reference value is mild poisoning; 30%-50% is moderate poisoning; less than 30% is severe poisoning.

Liver disease: The degree of ChE reduction is proportional to the damage to the liver parenchyma, which is more common in chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. If ChE continues to decrease, it indicates a poor prognosis.

Others: Malignant tumors, malnutrition, pernicious anemia, oral estrogen or contraceptives can also reduce ChE activity.
