Pathological examination showed papillary hyperplasia of squamous epithelium, enlarged cells in the upper stratum spinosum, large and darkly stained nuclei, binucleated or multinucleated, and perinuclear cavitation areas, which were called koilocytes. Immunohistochemical examination using avidin-biotin complex method detected HPV antigens in koilocytes as dark yellow or golden granules, with a positive rate of 50%.
