Does positive urine sugar mean diabetes?

Many people think that diabetes means positive urine sugar. In fact, simply increasing urine sugar does not mean positive urine sugar. Positive urine sugar is closely related to the body's blood sugar. Generally, emotional excitement, taking too many photos, and late pregnancy may cause positive urine sugar. Therefore, you should pay attention to your physical health in daily life, avoid excessive stress, and reduce strenuous exercise. So what are the causes of positive urine sugar and how to prevent and treat it?

Reasons for positive urine sugar when blood sugar is within normal range

1. Physiological diabetes caused by emotional excitement, tension, strenuous exercise, etc.

2. Renal diabetes: Blood sugar and glucose tolerance are normal. Due to congenital defects or acquired damage to the renal tubules, the blood sugar recovery function is impaired, resulting in renal diabetes. It can be seen in Fanconi syndrome, familial diabetes, nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, etc. When renal glycosuria is combined with diabetes, sugar is still excreted in the urine even though blood sugar is under normal control. Some renal diabetes may develop into true diabetes after many years. Newborns may also develop renal diabetes because their renal tubular function is not yet perfect.

3. Gestational diabetes: Some pregnant women’s renal glucose threshold decreases in a short period of time, resulting in diabetes, which can return to normal after delivery. But some patients are diabetic gestational or gestational diabetes, so the blood sugar and urine sugar should be measured at the same time to treat them differently.

4. Non-glucose glycosuria such as lactose glycosuria. Lactose and glucose glycosuria may occur simultaneously during pregnancy or lactation. Galactosuria can be seen in patients with congenital galactosemia.

5. Take vitamin C for medically induced pseudodiabetes. Aspirin, antipyrine, phenacetin, etc. may cause pseudodiabetes.

6. The examination time is not synchronized. During the diabetes examination, the blood drawing time and urine retention time are not synchronized. For example, the blood sugar test before the meal is normal, but the urine sugar test after the meal may be positive.
