What is the normal value of creatine kinase? What is Creatine Kinase?

Many people don’t know much about creatine kinase. Many clinical tests will check the creatine kinase value. Most hospitals will use the creatine kinase value to diagnose whether the patient has acute myocardial infarction. Generally speaking, if the creatine kinase is higher or lower than the normal value, people should be careful, especially patients with thyroid and myocardial ischemia and other problems. Special attention should be paid. So what is the normal value of creatine kinase?

1. Normal value of serum creatine kinase

(1) Creatine colorimetric method: 8-60 U/L (0.5-3.6 U).

(2) Enzyme coupling method: 24-195 U/L for men and 24-170 U/L for women.

2. Creatine kinase is also known as creatine phosphokinase (CPK). CK is mainly found in skeletal muscle, brain and cardiac muscle. Creatine kinase has a high value in diagnosing acute myocardial infarction. It is usually found in the cytoplasm and mitochondria of animal tissues such as the heart, muscle and brain. It is an important kinase that is directly related to intracellular energy circulation, muscle contraction and ATP regeneration1,2. It reversibly catalyzes the transphosphoacyl reaction between creatine and ATP.

3. Clinical significance of increased creatine kinase:

(1) Mainly used for the diagnosis of myocardial infarction. The increase in CK is greater than that of AST and LDH, and it occurs earlier. It begins to increase in 2-4 hours, reaches a peak in 12-48 hours, and returns to normal in 2-4 days. Especially for the diagnosis of myocardial ischemia and subendocardial myocardial infarction, it has higher sensitivity than other enzymes. Therefore, dynamic detection of CK changes is helpful for observing the condition and estimating the prognosis.

(2) It is also seen in the onset of progressive muscular dystrophy, viral myocarditis, polymyalgia, muscle injury or after surgery, cerebrovascular disease, alcohol poisoning, hypothyroidism, pulmonary infarction, etc.
