Symptoms of toxoplasmosis, pay attention to this

Toxoplasmosis is caused by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii. It is more common in livestock and is mostly a latent infection in humans, not pathogenic. Toxoplasmosis is closely related to AIDS and can invade the brain, eyes, lymph nodes and other parts of the body, and can also cause fetal malformations in humans. Learn more about toxoplasmosis symptoms.

It is generally divided into two categories: congenital and acquired, and latent infection is the most common. Clinical symptoms are mostly caused by recent acute infection or activation of latent lesions.

The clinical manifestations of congenital toxoplasmosis are complex

Most infants are asymptomatic at birth, but some develop retinal choroiditis, strabismus, blindness, epilepsy, psychomotor or mental retardation a few months or years after birth. The following different combinations of clinical manifestations: retinochoroiditis, hydrocephalus, microcephaly, anencephaly, intracranial calcification, etc. should be considered as possible causes of this disease.

Acquired toxoplasmosis severity

Acute lymphadenitis is the most common symptom in immunocompetent hosts, accounting for about 90%. People with immunodeficiency, such as those with AIDS, organ transplantation, or malignant tumors (mainly Hodgkin's disease, etc.), often have significant systemic symptoms, such as high fever, maculopapular rash, myalgia, arthralgia, headache, vomiting, delirium, and may also develop encephalitis, myocarditis, pneumonia, hepatitis, gastroenteritis, etc.

Daily care

1. Pregnant women should undergo pre-pregnancy and intra-pregnancy checkups to prevent congenital toxoplasmosis.

2. It is best to feed domestic cats with dry feed and cooked food, and clean the cat's nest regularly, but pregnant women should not participate in the cleaning.

3. Hands, cutting boards, knives, etc. that have handled meat, as well as objects that have come into contact with raw meat should be washed with soapy water and clean water.

4. Wash vegetables thoroughly before eating.
