Hysterosalpingography

Hysterosalpingography

The health of the fallopian tubes is a criterion that determines whether a woman can have children. If the fallopian tubes are blocked or have other diseases, it will inevitably affect conception. Therefore, in some examinations, the patency of the fallopian tube is a step in the examination. Hysterosalpingography is mainly used to check the health of the fallopian tubes. It is mainly suitable for infertility and fallopian tube blockage. Learn more about hysterosalpingography.

1. What is salpingography?

Hysterosalpingography was first used in the 1920s. It involves injecting iodine, a high-density substance with a high atomic number, into the uterine cavity through the cervical canal. This creates a clear artificial contrast with the surrounding tissues under X-ray film, allowing the lumen to be visualized, thereby understanding the conditions inside the uterus and fallopian tubes. Angiography can not only indicate whether the fallopian tubes are unobstructed and the location of obstruction, but also observe the morphology of the uterine cavity. This type of examination is relatively safe, does not require anesthesia, does not cause obvious pain, and is acceptable to patients.

2. Scope of application

1. Infertility is used to understand the causes of primary or secondary infertility. It can not only understand whether there are congenital malformations or pathological conditions in the uterus and fallopian tubes, but also understand whether the fallopian tubes are unobstructed, thereby finding the cause of infertility. In some cases, hysterosalpingography can help blocked fallopian tubes become unobstructed and lead to conception.

2. Abnormal uterine bleeding: Find the cause of abnormal uterine bleeding, understand the condition of uterine mucosa and uterine cavity, and determine whether abnormal bleeding is caused by endometrial polyps or submucosal myoma.

3. If you want to recanalize the fallopian tubes after tubal ligation, you must understand the condition of the uterus and fallopian tubes to decide whether surgery can be performed.

4. Tumor observation: The effects of uterine fibroids, adnexal tumors and other pelvic organs on the uterus and fallopian tubes.

5. Malformation diagnosis: Uterine malformations such as bicornuate uterus, septate uterus, etc.

6. Foreign body diagnosis of misplaced metallic intrauterine contraceptive device.

7. Adhesion diagnosis includes intrauterine adhesion, cervical adhesion, etc.

3. Taboo

1. Acute and subacute inflammation of the internal and external genitalia.

2. Patients with severe systemic diseases who cannot tolerate surgery.

3. Pregnancy and menstruation.

4. Within 6 weeks after childbirth, abortion, or curettage.

5. People who are allergic to iodine.

4. Inspection Fees

1. Contrast agent: The most commonly used contrast agents are iodized oil and ultrasound, which need to be selected according to physical condition. Some women are allergic to specific contrast agents. In this case, they should tell their doctor and choose a contrast agent that is suitable for them and does not harm their body under the doctor's guidance.

2. Catheter: The commonly used catheters are metal catheters and rubber catheters. The specific one you should use should be decided based on your own situation. Experts recommend that patients consult a doctor in the hospital before making a choice.

3. X-ray machine: When performing fallopian tube angiography, the cost of the examination will vary depending on the X-ray machine used. There are two main types of X-ray machines: digital X-ray machines and ordinary X-ray machines. The price of digital X-ray machines is relatively high. The use of X-ray machines can improve the accuracy of imaging, and the accuracy rate can reach 98% under experienced medical operation.
