What to do if upper lip turns outward?

If the upper lip is everted, you should pay attention to the causes. Common causes include facial burns, trauma and infection. Therefore, you should understand these causes and solve them accordingly. For patients with limited symptoms, it can be improved through local flap repair.

1. Lip eversion can be caused by facial burns, trauma and infection, among which scar contracture after burns is the most common. The degree of valgus deformity and functional impairment are related to the severity of the residual scar contracture. In mild cases, the lower lip is everted, while in severe cases, the lower lip can be extremely everted and may cause functional impairments such as eating and speaking, and the development of the mandible may also be affected. If it is caused by misaligned healing after trauma and there is no serious infection, the tissue loss is generally not much. Firearm injuries are often accompanied by severe infection and may cause extensive scarring. Those caused by gangrenous inflammation are often accompanied by extensive destruction of deep tissues or scar contracture, and adhesion of bones and temporomandibular joints may occur. Sufficient consideration should be given to this during repair. There are many surgical treatment methods with good results.

2. Treatment Principles

1. For limited cases, local skin flap repair is recommended.

2. When the scar is extensive, free skin grafting or distal skin flap repair can be performed.

3. When the lower lip is severely everted and combined with contracture of the chin neck and chin chest scar, extensive scar excision is performed, combined with skin grafting and flap repair.

3. Principles of Medication

1. In general, medications are mainly within the medication limits "A" and "B".

2. When the infection cannot be controlled by drugs in item A, medication limit "C" can be used.
