What are the symptoms of bulimia nervosa?

There are many symptoms of anorexia nervosa, including a history of overeating, a weight far exceeding normal after overeating, irritability, poor interpersonal relationships, and a relatively weak ability to control eating behavior in the early stages of the disease.

1. There is a history of binge eating, and the amount of food consumed far exceeds the normal amount. The patient often eats until he feels uncomfortable.

2. Immediately after binge eating, inappropriate compensatory measures are taken to prevent weight gain, which occurs at least twice a week on average and lasts for more than three months.

3. In the early stages, patients feel ashamed of their binge eating behavior and often do it in secret.

4. Binge eating behavior can be triggered by the following factors: irritability, poor interpersonal relationships, feeling hungry after dieting, or dissatisfaction with weight or body shape, etc. Binge eating can temporarily relieve irritability, but soon the patient becomes dissatisfied with himself and depressed.

5. At the beginning of the disease, the patient's ability to control eating behavior weakens, and in the later stages of the disease, the self-control ability is completely destroyed.

6. The most common method of controlling weight is to induce vomiting. You can stimulate the throat with your hands or other instruments, or take emetics to induce vomiting. After a period of time, there is no need to induce vomiting. The patient will vomit when he thinks about vomiting, even if he only eats a small amount of food.

7. About 1/3 of patients use catharsis to lose weight, and a very small number of patients even use enema.

8. Some patients do not adopt the method of directly eliminating food, but increase physical energy consumption, such as fast activities, increased physical exercise, etc. The amount of activity far exceeds normal and affects the normal life.

9. Patients pay too much attention to their physical appearance and often feel dissatisfied.

10. May be accompanied by symptoms of depression or anxiety, most of which are related to weight or body shape.
