What causes cracked feet in winter

The weather in winter is cold and dry, and it is easy to get cracks on the feet. This is called chapped hands and feet in medical terms, and it is closely related to seasonality. If you do not pay attention to moisturizing, such symptoms are likely to occur. This is a relatively serious skin disease, which is also very painful for patients, and often leads to difficulty and pain in walking. In addition to weather reasons, some physical factors are also important causes of chapped hands and feet, such as some traumatic causes, or the influence of some chemical substances. In addition, when patients have tinea pedis, it often causes fungal infections, which are also prone to cause cracks on the feet.

(I) Internal causes The skin of the hands and feet, especially the palms and soles, has the following anatomical and physiological characteristics, which are related to the occurrence of chapped skin:

1. The stratum corneum is thick, especially on the palms, soles and heels, so it is prone to cracking.

2. The skin on the palms and soles has no hair follicles and sebaceous glands. Therefore, when the temperature is low and the humidity is low in winter, the skin lacks sebum protection and is prone to cracking.

3. The above factors, together with the elderly, ichthyosis and keratosis, cause dry skin and thickening of the stratum corneum, making it more susceptible to disease under the influence of some external factors.

(B) External factors 1. Physical factors such as dryness, friction, trauma, etc. can promote the onset of the disease.

2. Chemical acids, alkalis, organic solvents, etc. dissolve sebum, causing the skin to lose its lubricating protection.

3. Biological infections such as fungi cause the skin to become over-keratinized and lose its original protective ability.

Chapped hands and feet are a common and frequently occurring disease in people's daily lives, especially in winter. It is a condition in which the skin of the hands and feet becomes dry and cracked due to a variety of causes. This disease is prone to occur on the palms, fingertips, flexor surfaces of fingers, heels, and outer edges of feet, so these areas should be the focus of protection. At the beginning of the disease, the skin is dry, the keratinization is thickened, the skin wrinkles are obvious, and cracks appear along the skin wrinkles. In severe cases, the fissures may reach deep into the skin, and there may be bleeding and pain, which is more obvious during activities. If bacteria invade. Purulent infection may occur.
