Spleen and stomach deficiency and cold is a term specific to traditional Chinese medicine. It mainly refers to the invasion of a large amount of cold air into the human spleen and stomach, which leads to poor digestive function of the spleen and stomach, and thus certain gastrointestinal diseases. Deficiency of the spleen and stomach is closely related to a person's diet. For example, if a person often eats raw and cold food, the chance of developing deficiency of the spleen and stomach is relatively high. But what is the disease of spleen and stomach deficiency called in Western medicine? Spleen and stomach deficiency and coldness is a term in Traditional Chinese Medicine. It refers to the symptoms of spleen and stomach yang deficiency and internal excess of yin and cold. It includes spleen yang deficiency and stomach yang deficiency (some also believe that it refers only to spleen yang deficiency), which is mostly caused by eating disorders, excessive eating of raw and cold food, excessive fatigue, or long-term illness or worry that damages the spleen. The symptoms of spleen yang deficiency include poor appetite, abdominal distension, epigastric pain that prefers warmth and pressure, bland mouth without thirst, cold limbs, loose stools, or edema of limbs, fear of cold and preference for warmth, clear and long urination or difficult urination, clear and frequent leucorrhea in women, pale, plump and tender tongue, white and moist tongue coating, and deep and slow pulse. Stomach yang deficiency often causes pain due to cold weather, cold food and cold products. The pain is accompanied by a cold feeling in the stomach, and the symptoms will be relieved when warmed up. The stomachache is dull and continuous, with discomfort caused by cold, prefers warmth and pressure, is worse on an empty stomach and relieved by food, and the pain occurs or worsens after fatigue, eating cold food, or catching a cold. The patient vomits clear water, eats less, feels tired and weak, has cold hands and feet, has loose and thin stools, has a pale tongue with a white coating, and has a weak pulse. The key points for diagnosis of stomach yang deficiency syndrome are the symptoms of stomach disharmony and descending and the manifestations of yang deficiency syndrome, while the key points for diagnosis of spleen yang deficiency syndrome are the symptoms of spleen deficiency and dysfunction and the manifestations of deficiency-cold syndrome. 1. Diet therapy (1) Pepper pork belly soup Pepper, pork belly, and 5 candied dates. Scrub the pig's stomach inside and out with cornstarch and salt and wash it clean. Put pepper into the pig's stomach, sew it up with thread, put it into the pot together with the candied dates, add appropriate amount of water, boil it over high heat, then simmer for 3 hours over low heat. After seasoning, drink the soup and eat the pig's stomach and candied dates. Efficacy: warms the middle and strengthens the spleen, dispels cold and relieves pain. It is used for patients with gastric ulcer or duodenal ulcer due to spleen and stomach deficiency and cold, with symptoms such as cold pain in the stomach, preference for warmth and pressure, abdominal distension and nausea, cold limbs, and cold body and fear of cold. (2) Fennel and dog meat soup Anise, cinnamon, tangerine peel, cardamom, 2 slices of ginger, dog meat, appropriate amount of soy sauce, and 4 cloves of garlic. Wash the dahuixiang, tangerine peel, cinnamon, tsaoko and ginger; chop the fennel, cinnamon and tsaoko; peel the garlic; wash the dog meat, cut it into small pieces, and stir-fry it in hot oil in a pot to remove the mutton smell. Put all the ingredients into the pot, add appropriate amount of water, boil over high heat, then simmer until the dog meat is cooked through, drink the soup and eat the dog meat. Take 1 serving per day, divided into 2 meals, and take for 5 consecutive days as a course of treatment. It has the effects of warming the middle, boosting yang and warming the stomach. It is used for pain in the upper abdomen caused by cold stomach, preference for heat and pressure, vomiting of clear water, and fatigue. It can also be used for people with weak stomach, cold stomach, and cold limbs. (3) Ginger porridge Slice fresh ginger, add 2 to 5 jujubes and glutinous rice, cook them together into porridge, and season with appropriate amount of oil and salt before eating. It has the effects of warming the spleen and nourishing the stomach, dispelling wind and dispersing cold. It is suitable for spleen and stomach deficiency and cold after illness or in the elderly, nausea, loss of appetite, vomiting of clear water, abdominal pain and diarrhea, headache and nasal congestion, as well as chronic bronchitis, lung cold, asthma and cough. If used for colds, remove the dates and add 3 scallions. (4) Shredded Tripe Soup After washing the beef or pork tripe, boil it in clean water for 3 minutes, then take it out, pour out the original soup, add clean water and simmer it on low heat until it is 70% cooked, add appropriate amount of salt, cooking wine, pepper, and fennel and continue cooking. When it is cooked through, take it out, let it cool until it is not hot, cut into shreds, put it into a large bowl, add three slices of fresh ginger and appropriate amount of MSG, pour the soup from the second cooking into the bowl of shredded tripe until it covers the shredded tripe, steam it in a steamer for 45 minutes and serve hot. (5) Fennel Buns Chop the fennel, remove the bones and skin, chop the chicken, mix the two evenly, add appropriate amount of fresh ginger juice, pepper powder, MSG, salt, and sesame oil, mix well to make the filling; use the wheat flour to make the dough, put the filling in the skin, pinch it into buns, steam it in a steamer over high heat for 20 minutes, and serve hot. Jujube (6) Ginger, honey and glutinous rice drink Dried ginger, glutinous rice, honey. Wash the dried ginger and glutinous rice, grind them into fine powder, put them into a pot, add appropriate amount of water, boil for 30 minutes, take the thick juice, wait until it is warm, and add honey. Take it in the morning and afternoon. It has the effects of warming the stomach, replenishing deficiency, stopping vomiting and dispersing cold. (7) Ginger Milk Drink Fresh ginger and fresh milk. Wash and peel the fresh ginger, cut it into thin strips, put it into a container, add water and mash it to extract the juice, add it to milk, and boil it over low heat. Take it in the morning and afternoon. It has the effect of warming and nourishing the spleen and stomach. (8) Others ①Fresh ginger, glutinous rice, and white sugar. Wash the ginger, cut it into thin slices, put it into the pot together with the washed glutinous rice, add appropriate amount of water, boil it over high heat first, then cook over low heat until the porridge is thick, then add white sugar and it is done. Eat in the morning and evening. It has the effects of warming the middle and dispelling cold, warming the stomach and stopping vomiting. ② Remove the scales, gills and intestines of a silver carp, slice it, add appropriate amounts of dried ginger and salt, and cook it together. It has the effect of warming the spleen and stomach. It is suitable for symptoms such as spleen and stomach deficiency, coldness, and loss of appetite. ③Cook the mutton, add tofu, ginger and appropriate amount of salt for seasoning. It is suitable for irregular menstruation and spleen and stomach deficiency. ④ Elderly people with weak spleen and stomach, nausea, poor appetite, vomiting of clear water, abdominal pain and diarrhea, as well as cough and wheezing caused by cold lungs: slice fresh ginger, add 5 jujubes and glutinous rice, cook them together into porridge, and add appropriate amount of oil and salt for seasoning. |
