What does window period mean?

Many people do not understand what the window period is. In fact, it refers to a 3 to 6 week window period after being infected with HIV. That is to say, during this period the human body is still producing HIV antibodies, but these antibodies cannot be detected.

The virus infection can only be detected through nucleic acid testing. However, this initial infection period is the most infectious, but HIV can be transmitted at any infection period. After 6 weeks, that is, after the infected person has had enough time to produce antibodies, a retest should be carried out to confirm the initial test results.

The amount of HIV in the infected person's body will reach a peak at this time, making it extremely contagious. The acute infection period also occurs during this time.
