Why does the sole of my foot hurt when I walk?

The foot is one of the four limbs that support the human body. The pressure that the foot can withstand is very large. Almost the weight of the entire body is supported by the feet. However, the feet sometimes have problems. For example, pain in the soles of the feet is a common phenomenon. Many people have experienced symptoms of pain in the soles of the feet, and some even experience pain in the soles of the feet when they walk. So, why does the soles of the feet hurt when you walk?

It could be plantar fasciitis. Causes of plantar fasciitis include:

1. Plantar fascia requires long periods of standing or walking due to work, such as teachers and nurses;

2. Heel spurs cause constant friction and inflammation at the junction of the heel bone and plantar fascia;

3. The flexibility of the fascia itself becomes worse, such as with age;

4. The arch of the foot is too large (high arch) or too small (flat foot);

5. Factors such as being overweight, often wearing hard-soled shoes, etc., cause excessive burden on the feet, especially the plantar fascia is often subjected to excessive or abnormal stimulation, leading to fasciitis.

The main function of the plantar fascia is to maintain the arch of the foot, make the foot elastic, and absorb the reaction force from the ground when the foot touches the ground when walking. When it is overused or subjected to abnormal tension, it may cause inflammation. In the early stages, patients will experience pain in the soles of their feet, especially at the junction of the fascia and the heel and three centimeters away from the heel bone. There will be a tender point when pressed, and a tingling sensation will be felt here if walking or standing for too long.

If this symptom is not treated, after a period of time, it will cause the plantar fascia to degenerate, lose its elasticity, and cause the surrounding muscles to atrophy, affecting the normal function of the foot. The injured foot will not be able to bear weight due to the pain, and will walk with a limp. Over time, the other foot will cause knee pain and degeneration due to excessive weight bearing, hip joint degeneration, or back pain, scoliosis, and other phenomena due to poor walking posture.
