Are you aware of these 8 consequences of untreated hypothyroidism?

Many people in life are unfamiliar with the term hypothyroidism and think that this disease will not have a great impact on the body. Therefore, even if they suffer from this disease, they do not take it seriously and wait until it becomes serious before receiving treatment. This idea has caused certain harm to the bodies of many people. So today we will understand the consequences of not treating hypothyroidism.

When hypothyroidism develops to a certain extent, the skin may show myxedema, such as puffy cheeks and eyelids, pale complexion, anemic or old ivory appearance, drooping eyelids causing the palpebral fissure to be narrow like a slit, thickened lips, a large tongue with unclear pronunciation, slow speech, low and weak voice, dry and sparse hair, and some patients' eyebrows and eyelashes fall off. It seems to give people the impression of being "indifferent", "stupid", "dull" or even "a mask". In addition, some patients may experience the following symptoms:

1. Cardiovascular system abnormalities: If hypothyroidism is not treated in time, as the disease progresses, the patient may experience a slow heartbeat, dull heart sounds, enlarged heart, low cardiac output, pericardial effusion, etc. If the disease progresses seriously, it may even lead to hypothyroid cardiomyopathy, which is quite harmful to the patient.

2. Nervous system: If hypothyroidism is not treated, the patient's nervous system will be greatly affected, causing memory loss, intellectual impairment, slow reaction, drowsiness, depression, etc. In the later stages, the patient may also suffer from dementia.

3. Reproductive system: If hypothyroidism is not treated in time, the reproductive system of both male and female patients will be greatly affected, and the more serious case is infertility.

4. Memory loss, lack of concentration, and in severe cases, mental disorders or even drowsiness all day long.

5. Sweating less, afraid of cold, low body temperature, listlessness, fatigue and drowsiness, few words, and dry skin.

6. Slow pulse, weak heart sounds, and low blood pressure.

7. Decreased libido, menorrhagia, and amenorrhea in patients with long-term illness.

8. Loss of appetite, abdominal distension, and constipation.

As the symptoms of hypothyroidism worsen, in addition to myxedema, pericardial effusion, renal function decline, bone marrow suppression, etc. may also occur. The most terrifying thing is depression.
