Are there any side effects of using coffee enemas? What are the side effects

Coffee enema is not unfamiliar to people with constipation. It is a detoxification therapy, which is very similar to the general enema method. Many people wonder if coffee enemas have any side effects. The answer is yes, coffee enema can easily lead to dependence and should not be used frequently.

1. The acid in coffee enema solution can irritate the anal skin and may worsen hemorrhoids. Therefore, it is not suitable for people with bleeding wounds in the rectum. If a person is physically weak or has poor physical strength, he or she will have a rapid bowel movement after enema, which may cause an imbalance of minerals such as sodium or potassium in the body, and then cause anemia. Pregnant women should not have coffee enema, especially in the early stages of pregnancy, as excessive intestinal stimulation may cause abnormal contraction of the uterus.

2. Coffee enema is still effective in cleaning the dirt, stool and bacteria in the large intestine, but it should not be done too often, otherwise there will be adverse reactions, leading to dysbacteriosis, gastrointestinal dysfunction, etc. If coffee enema is the kind of "food enema" (a small intestinal snack), it is undoubtedly an innovation. If it is a medical or "fun" practice, then it is not advisable. General enemas are mainly used for catharsis and intestinal cleansing. Coffee enema is currently considered unscientific in clinical practice.

3. The liquid poured into the intestinal cavity will also take away a large amount of intestinal fluid when it is discharged, leading to electrolyte imbalance. In comparison, the advantages of oral laxatives are more obvious. Normally, enema is used to clean the intestines only when the patient's condition is not too serious and emergency surgery is required and there is no time to take medication. When treating patients, people will be very cautious in choosing enema treatment, let alone healthy people, who should not have enema frequently.
