What causes chronic appendicitis?

I believe that many friends are very familiar with chronic appendicitis because it is a highly prevalent disease. There are many factors that cause chronic appendicitis, such as hyperplasia, thickening, hardening, and fibrosis of the appendix wall. If chronic appendicitis is mild, you can try taking medication to treat it.

1. Primary chronic appendicitis: It is characterized by insidious onset, slow progression of symptoms, and a long course lasting from several months to several years. There is no history of acute attacks at the beginning of the disease, and there is no repeated acute attacks during the course of the disease.

2. Secondary chronic appendicitis: The characteristic is that after the first acute appendicitis, it is cured by non-surgical treatment or relieved by itself, and there are residual clinical symptoms. It cannot be cured for a long time and may recur or recur acutely during the course of the disease.

3. Although some people believe that the pathology of chronic appendicitis is sometimes difficult to confirm, most of the time there are still clear changes. The wall of the appendix is hyperplastic, fibrotic, short and tough, with a grayish white surface. The mesoappendix is thickened, shortened and hardened, and there is perivascular lymphocyte and eosinophil infiltration in the mucosa or subserosa. Foreign body giant cells may also be seen in some cases.

4. Sometimes the appendix wall becomes fibrotic, causing the lumen to narrow or even become blocked into a cord, similar to the aging and atrophy of the appendix. Stenosis and occlusion start from the tip of the appendix and spread to the root. If only the root is occluded, the distal lumen may be filled with mucus, forming a mucocele. After chronic inflammation of the appendix, it may curl up on its own, or be surrounded by a large amount of fibrous adhesions, with fecal stones or other foreign objects in the lumen.
