Can thymoma be cured? Timely surgery is the most important

Thymoma is a mediastinal tumor. The main method of treating this disease is surgery, and the prognosis is also very good. In addition, patients should understand their daily diet. The food should be nutritious and easy to digest, and they should maintain a good attitude.

1. Treatment of thymoma

Once a thymoma is diagnosed, it should be surgically removed. The reason is that as the tumor continues to grow and enlarge, it compresses adjacent tissues and organs and produces obvious clinical symptoms; it is difficult to determine whether the tumor is benign or malignant based solely on clinical and X-ray manifestations; and benign tumors can also become malignant. Therefore, whether benign or malignant thymoma, it should be removed as soon as possible. For resectable malignant thymoma, pathological biopsy can be performed to guide postoperative treatment. For those with partial resection, postoperative radiotherapy can relieve symptoms and prolong patient survival.

Treatment for thymoma includes surgical removal, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. The most important factor in predicting the changing behavior of thymomas is whether the tumor is encapsulated. Abnormal neoplasms with intact capsules that are not densely adherent to the mediastinal structures can be cured by surgical resection in 85% to 90% of cases. In contrast, thymomas that invade adjacent soft tissue, the lungs, the adventitia of the aorta, or the pericardium are likely to recur without adjuvant therapy after surgery. Currently, a comprehensive treatment plan with surgical resection as the main approach is adopted.

2. Diet for cancer patients:

1. Pay attention to dietary balance: Dietary balance is the basis for maintaining the body's immunity. Ordinary food is the best source of nutrients for the body. Individualized nutritional treatment should be carried out for patients with clinical conditions such as malnutrition.

2. Diversify food and rationalize the combination: To ensure balanced and comprehensive nutrition, daily food diversification is necessary, that is, the combination should be based on the proportions of the five major food categories shown in the Balanced Diet Pyramid of Chinese Residents.

3. Eat small meals and light, easily digestible food: For patients undergoing radiotherapy, chemotherapy or surgery, due to weakened digestive function, increasing the frequency of meals can reduce the burden on the digestive tract and increase food intake.

4. It is not advisable to abstain from food: Dietary abstention should be determined according to the nature of the disease and the individual characteristics of different patients. Excessive dietary abstention is not recommended. Foods that patients generally need to limit or avoid include: high-temperature fried, smoked and grilled, spicy, greasy and hard foods, etc.

5. Choose more foods with anti-cancer effects: fruits and vegetables (such as asparagus, carrots, spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, potatoes, kiwis, citrus), soybeans and their products, edible fungi, nuts, seaweed, coix seed, milk, eggs, etc.

6. Vitamin C, vitamin B6, carotene and vitamin E are closely related to immunity. For example, vitamin C can stimulate the body to produce interferon to destroy viruses to reduce the combination of white blood cells and viruses and maintain the number of white blood cells. Vitamin C should be supplemented regularly to enhance immunity; green peppers and orange juice are rich in vitamin C; foods rich in vitamin B6 include chicken, fish, liver, potatoes, avocados and sunflower seeds; carrots contain a lot of carotene; foods rich in vitamin E include almonds, hazelnuts and a variety of whole-wheat foods. In addition, there are folic acid, vitamin B12, niacin, pantothenic acid and minerals such as iron and zinc in the nutrients, which are all related to immunity. Lack of these nutrients in the human body will affect the immune function.
