What is the normal value of blood creatinine

After the physical examination, only when the various indicators and parameters of the body are within the normal range can it be said that our body is healthy. After testing blood creatinine, if it is not within the normal value, we should be alert to the signals the body sends us. Generally speaking, blood creatinine is the most commonly used indicator for testing kidney function and is also a must-check item in health examinations.

Sometimes the blood creatinine value cannot reflect the status of kidney function in a timely and accurate manner. When a large part of the human kidneys suffers pathological damage and the glomerular filtration rate decreases significantly (more than 50%), elevated blood creatinine may manifest itself clinically.

For patients with kidney disease, they are not unfamiliar with the mention of blood creatinine, but for most people, they do not have a very good knowledge about blood creatinine. Let's take a look at the introduction below.

Serum creatinine is generally considered to be endogenous serum creatinine, which is a product of human muscle metabolism. In muscles, creatine is mainly converted into creatinine through irreversible non-enzymatic dehydration reaction, which is then released into the blood and excreted in the urine. Blood creatinine is closely related to the total amount of muscle in the body and is not easily affected by diet. Creatinine is a small molecule that can be filtered through the glomerulus and is rarely absorbed in the renal tubules. Almost all of the creatinine produced in the body daily is excreted in the urine and is generally not affected by urine volume.

Clinically, blood creatinine is an important indicator for understanding kidney function. The normal value of blood creatinine varies from hospital to hospital. Generally speaking, the normal value of blood creatinine is 44-133umol/L. When blood creatinine exceeds 133umol/L, it means that the kidneys are damaged, renal insufficiency, or renal failure has occurred. When the blood creatinine reaches 133umol/L or above, it is the inflammatory damage stage, 186umol/L is the renal function damage stage, 451umol/L is the renal failure stage, and the blood creatinine value exceeds 707umol/L, which means it has reached the late stage (uremia).

The normal value of blood creatinine is different for men, women and children. The normal value of blood creatinine for men is 54-106umol/L, the normal value of blood creatinine for women is 44-97umol/L, and the normal value of blood creatinine for children is 24.9-69.7umol/L.
