Male inflorescences are 1 to 3 times umbel-branched, and the cymes are pedunculate, often clustered at the end of the pedicel; male flowers: 6 sepals, obovate to oblanceolate, about 1.5 mm long, the inner one is slightly wider, all with purple stripes; petals are 3, fleshy, conchoidal, about 1.2 mm long, often purple or orange-yellow; female inflorescence is nearly capitate, and the cymes are almost sessile; female flowers: 1 sepal, 2 petals, both smaller than those of male flowers. The drupe is red, obovate, very flat, and about 7 mm long; there are 2 rows of hooked thorns on each side of the back of the pit, with 18-20 thorns in each row, and the placenta is perforated. Flowering period is early summer. 2. Nature and flavor of Xue San Shu: bitter, cold Chemical composition of Xuesanshu: Xuesanshu contains alkaloids such as clibanine, cyperine, stephania pine, dehydrostephania pine, annona pine, levorotatory tetrahydropalmatine, isoterpenoid, stephania capitis, homoaromaline and berberine. 3. Functions and indications of Xue San Shu: Clears away heat, detoxifies, disperses blood stasis and relieves pain. Mainly used for upper respiratory tract infection, pharyngitis, carbuncle, stomachache, gastroenteritis, toothache, neuralgia, and trauma.
