What are the early symptoms of glaucoma

If you want to treat glaucoma, you must pay attention to early detection. The earliest symptoms are always feeling eye fatigue and discomfort, and sometimes blurred vision, and the eyes are often sore and swollen. If these similar symptoms appear, then you need to understand whether it is caused by glaucoma.

1. Often feel eye fatigue and discomfort;

2. Eyes are often sore and swollen, which will be relieved after rest;

3. Blurred vision, sudden worsening of myopia or presbyopia;

4. Primary open-angle glaucoma: mostly occurs in people over 40 years old. 25% of patients have a family history. The vast majority of patients have no obvious symptoms, and some even become blind without feeling any discomfort. The anterior chamber angle is open during an attack. The diagnosis of this type is the most critical. Currently, once a Western medicine diagnosis is made, there will be obvious fundus changes. Therefore, it is necessary to comprehensively and carefully rule out every patient with signs of glaucoma, diagnose early, and treat early. Do not wait until the diagnosis of glaucoma is confirmed before treatment, as the best time for treatment has been lost.

5. Glaucoma secondary to refractive error (i.e. myopia, hyperopia): due to maladjustment of the refractive system, dysfunction of the ciliary muscle, irregular secretion of aqueous humor, and compression of the anterior chamber angle by the root of the iris, the drainage of aqueous humor is blocked, thus causing increased intraocular pressure. The clinical characteristics of such patients are conscious symptoms of visual fatigue or no obvious discomfort, and their vision cannot be corrected by wearing glasses, which makes them prone to misdiagnosis. Therefore, patients with a history of refractive error should promptly seek a doctor with rich clinical experience in glaucoma for a detailed examination once they have unexplained eye abnormalities.

6. Glaucoma secondary to keratoconjunctival and uveitis: Intraocular inflammation causes turbidity of aqueous humor, edema of ciliary muscle, iris and cornea, shallowing of chamber angle, or adhesion of pupil and obstruction of trabecular meshwork. The aqueous humor cannot be discharged normally and causes increased intraocular pressure. Currently, Western medicine generally uses antibiotics and hormones for symptomatic treatment of this disease, which artificially interferes with the autoimmune function, causing the disease to recur repeatedly and be difficult to cure.

7. Glaucoma secondary to cataract: During the development of lens opacity, edema and expansion or displacement may cause relative narrowing of the anterior chamber and obstruction of aqueous humor drainage, leading to increased intraocular pressure. Once cataract surgery is performed, the optic nerve will quickly atrophy and blindness may occur.
