What should I do if my anus bleeds?

Anal bleeding is often caused by hemorrhoids, colon cancer, ulcerative colitis and other problems. So once you understand the causes of anal bleeding, you will know how to treat them more effectively and symptomatically.

The bleeding caused by hemorrhoids is often not mixed with stool, and the blood is bright red. There may also be blood in the stool, blood dripping, and blood stains on toilet paper. But we cannot conclude based on these situations that blood in the stool is hemorrhoidal bleeding. In addition to hemorrhoids, the following diseases can cause blood in the stool

1. Colorectal cancer can cause blood in the stool. Blood in the stool in the early stages of colorectal cancer may appear as a small amount of blood covering the surface of the stool. As the disease progresses, the amount of blood in the stool will gradually increase, and phenomena such as stool thinning and intestinal obstruction may also occur. According to statistics, colorectal cancer is the most common disease that causes blood in the stool.

2. Ulcerative colitis can cause fresh blood in the stool. The disease causes blood in the stool, which may be bright or dark in color and is mostly mixed with feces. There may also be mucus and pus in the stool. Patients with this disease often have symptoms such as abdominal pain and diarrhea.

3. Colon polyps can cause blood in the stool. Colorectal polyps can be single or multiple. The characteristics of blood in the stool are that the blood in the stool occurs intermittently, is bright red, is not much in amount, and is not mixed with feces. Some patients have small fleshy tumors (polyps) protrude from the anus during bowel movements, and then retract into the rectum after defecation.

4. Anal fissures and damage to the anal mucosa can cause blood in the stool. Anal fissure is the most common cause of bloody stool in children. The child not only has blood in the stool, but also has symptoms of pain after defecation. Anal fissures in adults are mostly caused by long-term constipation. The blood in the stool caused by anal fissure is fresh in color. During defecation, a small amount of blood may be seen on the surface of the stool or on toilet paper, and fresh blood may also drip.

5. Colonic vascular dysplasia can cause fresh blood in the stool. The blood in the stool caused by colon vascular dysplasia is heavy and bright red.
