Can't eat for a few hours while blood is drawn

Blood test is a common examination method. You must be aware of some precautions before the blood test. For example, you need to fast for more than 8 hours before the blood test. The reason for fasting is to ensure the accuracy of the blood test results. In addition to not fasting, try to eat light food and do not drink alcohol in the three days before the blood test to avoid affecting the test results. Let us learn about this aspect.

Can't eat for a few hours while blood is drawn

Hello, generally speaking, you should fast for more than 8 hours. You should eat normally the night before the examination, but avoid eating too greasy food. Do not eat or drink water when you have your blood drawn the next morning.

What should I pay attention to when taking a blood test?

1. Do not eat greasy or high-protein foods three days before blood collection, avoid drinking large amounts of alcohol (because the alcohol content in the blood will directly affect the test results), and maintain a regular daily life.

2. You must fast for more than 8 hours the day before blood collection. It is best not to eat after 8 pm the night before to avoid affecting the detection of fasting blood sugar and other indicators the next day.

3. If you have a history of fainting at the thought of blood, please inform us in advance so that special arrangements can be made.

4. On the day of blood collection, blood collection must be done on an empty stomach before 9 a.m. If it is too late, the blood sugar level may be distorted due to the influence of physiological endocrine hormones in the body, thus affecting the blood collection results.

5. When having blood drawn, try to wear loose clothes to avoid compressing the meridians in your arms.

6. When drawing blood, you should be relaxed to avoid vasoconstriction due to fear, which will increase the difficulty of blood collection and also avoid fainting caused by neurovascular reflex.

7. After drawing blood on site, press the needle hole with a cotton swab or hemostatic tool for more than 3 minutes to stop the bleeding. Due to different individual conditions, the clotting time varies and some people may need longer.

8. Do not massage the needle hole to avoid subcutaneous hematoma. If there is a small bruise at the blood draw site and it is slightly painful, please do not panic. You can apply hot compress after 24 hours to promote absorption of the blood bruise. Generally, small amounts of blood stasis will gradually be absorbed and lighten in color within 3 to 5 days and return to normal.

9. If you experience symptoms of blood phobia after blood drawing, such as dizziness, blurred vision, fatigue, etc., you should lie down immediately and drink a small amount of sugar water. Wait until the symptoms are relieved before having a physical examination.
