What are the symptoms of spring catarrhal conjunctivitis

The eyes are one of the most vulnerable and most important physiological organs of the human body. The most prominent symptom of this disease is unbearable itching in both eyes, accompanied by a burning sensation, which is worse in hot weather or after rubbing the eyes. There is also mild photophobia and tearing. The secretion is not much, but is characteristically sticky and stringy.

Vernal conjunctivitis is clinically divided into palpebral conjunctivitis, limbal conjunctivitis and mixed types according to the site of the lesion.

1. Conjunctival type

The lesions are located in the palpebral conjunctiva and do not invade the fornix. There are only mild lesions in the lower palpebral conjunctiva. At the beginning, the conjunctiva is severely congested, and then many hard and flat papillae of different sizes appear on the upper eyelid conjunctiva, covering the conjunctiva like paving pebbles. The cracks between the papillae are light blue, and the surface of the papillae appears turbid like milk. The secretion is not much, very sticky, and pulled into threads.

2. Limbal type

One or more yellow-gray colloid raised nodules can be seen at the corneal margin equivalent to the palpebral fissure or at the upper corneal margin, and the corresponding bulbar conjunctiva is congested. These colloids may connect with each other or even completely surround the corneal margin in a dam-like shape. The bulbar conjunctiva is often dirty brown. Fine pannus and superficial epithelial keratitis are common in both the palpebral conjunctival type and the corneal limbal type.

3. Hybrid

If the above two types exist at the same time, it is a mixed type.
