Treatment methods and daily care for burn scars

Scars are marks on human skin that are difficult to erase, especially for some people with a scar-prone constitution, who are very likely to be left with ugly scars. Among the many types of scars, burn scars are the most common. At the same time, there are currently many treatments for burn scars. You can choose a method that suits you according to the degree of burns or scalds.

1. Treatment methods for burn scars

Now with the development of medical technology, it is recommended to adopt non-surgical and minimally invasive treatment methods for burn scars, which cleverly combine non-invasive lasers, medical treatments, light irradiation, and physical methods, without the need for surgery, safe and painless.

2. When is the best time to treat burns?

The healing time of burn wounds ranges from half a year to two years, which is the proliferation period of scars. If observed under a microscope, it can be found that there are many thick, disorderly arranged and vigorously growing "fibroblasts" in the scars. If no treatment is given at this time, their growth will become faster and faster, and they will continue to become thicker and harder. If it lasts for a long time, contracture may occur. Therefore, it is best to treat within three months. For scar contractures in some functional parts (hand scars, eye scars, etc.), surgery should be performed as soon as possible after the scars stabilize, otherwise it will cause abnormal development of joints and bones and shortening of blood vessels and nerves, leading to disability.

3. Daily care during treatment of burn scars

1. Pay attention to skin cleanliness.

When burn wounds are just healing, there is still a small amount of secretion and scab, which makes it easy for bacteria to multiply quickly. In addition, the epidermis is thin and tender, and its structure and function are not perfect, making it easy for scars to form, and for infection and ulceration to occur. During this period, you can use a neutral detergent to clean it, and then use anti-scar drugs and other treatments after cleaning.

2. Avoid excessive friction and excessive activity.

Scar repair, when applying anti-scar drugs, it is not advisable to massage too hard or for too long, as this will cause the epidermis to separate from the fibrous plate layer to form blisters or blood blisters. Excessive activity of the joints and scar removal will also cause the epidermis to loosen and separate, forming blisters.

3. After burns on the lower limbs, scars need to be repaired and it is not advisable to get up and move around too early.

Because the scar epidermis is weak and the underlying vascular structure and function are imperfect, the scar cannot resist the internal pressure of gravity. When standing, the wound on the lower limbs will turn purple or even bleed due to ruptured capillaries, which will aggravate scar hyperplasia. To remove scars, it is generally more appropriate to get up and move around after 3 months. It is better to use a pressure sleeve for protection before going to the ground, which can reduce scar congestion.

4. Scars and blisters should be drained in time to repair scars and avoid infection and ulcer formation.

Due to various stimuli, the new epidermis is prone to loosening and forming blisters. If the blisters are not treated promptly and correctly, infection often occurs and ulcers form. After blisters appear, you can use complex iodine to disinfect the skin, remove scars, cut the blisters with sterile scissors, repair scars, and drain the accumulated fluid. Anti-scar treatment should generally be implemented after the blisters have subsided and the ulcers have healed.
