What are the drugs and methods for treating costochondritis

You may not know much about costochondritis. This disease is mostly caused by trauma, infection or malnutrition. Patients with costochondritis will have obvious pain in the chest, accompanied by a certain amount of soreness. If the condition of costochondritis is not particularly serious, you can consider using medication to reduce inflammation, but if the condition is severe, you must seek medical treatment.

1. Drugs for the treatment of costochondritis

1. Nonspecific costochondritis

(1) Costochondritis is generally treated only symptomatically, such as taking analgesics, hot compresses, physical therapy, or local blockade with procatheter. Systemic or topical administration of corticosteroids may also help relieve symptoms. Erythromycin and morphine can be taken in the acute phase. Alternatively, you can use hormones such as prednisone or dexamethasone. For those with severe pain, 5 ml of lidocaine plus triamcinolone can be injected directly at the painful point.

(2) If the pain fails to be relieved by long-term drug treatment, affects the patient's mood and work, or local malignant tumors cannot be ruled out, costal cartilage resection may be considered.

2. Infectious costochondritis

Perform conservative treatment first, use targeted antibiotics to effectively control infection and provide symptomatic analgesia. When the above methods are ineffective, surgical treatment is required.

2. Treatment of costochondritis

1. Drug treatment

Treatment: Take anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs such as prednisone, or antiviral drugs such as Vibrio.

2. Physical therapy

Treatment: Topical novocaine and prednisolone blockade.

3. Surgical treatment

Treatment: If the disease is serious and the pain is severe, the diseased and hyperplastic costal cartilage can be removed.

4. Scraping therapy

Therapy: Traditional Chinese medicine scraping therapy is used, mainly scraping the Ren meridian, foot-taiyang bladder meridian, hand-jueyin pericardium meridian, etc.

5. Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment

Costal osteoarthritis is a non-specific inflammation. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that it is mostly caused by imbalance of Qi and blood and blocked blood vessels. Yunnan Baiyao has the effects of promoting blood circulation, removing blood stasis, unblocking meridians and relieving pain, so it can be used clinically to treat costochondria.
