Is keratitis serious? Is it harmful?

Keratitis is an inflammation caused by corneal trauma and is a very common eye disease. Many people want to know whether keratitis is serious, but this question depends on the situation. If the treatment is not thorough, it may cause permanent damage to your eyesight, so you still need to be careful.

1. Keratitis seriously affects vision

In clinical practice, in addition to paralytic keratitis, most patients infected with keratitis have severe inflammatory symptoms after the onset of the disease, such as constant pain in the eyes, tearing after exposure to light, and eyelid spasms. Moreover, many patients do not receive timely treatment after the onset of the disease, and their vision will be affected to a certain extent due to the interference of inflammation, affecting the vision of the eye itself. Therefore, the harm of keratitis cannot be ignored, and it brings some interference to the patient's basic life.

2. Hazards

When the patient's conjunctiva and even eyelids become edematous after infection, the pupil area and retina of patients who have been suffering from the disease for a long time will be damaged to varying degrees due to inflammation, and the damage to the patient's eyesight may be permanent.

3. Others

If keratitis is not treated promptly, it can cause corneal ulcers in severe cases, affecting vision, and in the most serious cases can lead to blindness. Keratitis is divided into two categories: ulcerative keratitis, also known as corneal ulcer, and non-ulcerative keratitis, also known as deep keratitis. Severe exposure may cause permanent vision damage. The treatment plan for keratitis needs to be selected according to the different pathogens. For example, if it is bacterial, choose antibacterial drugs such as levofloxacin eye drops, and if it is viral, choose antiviral drugs such as ganciclovir eye drops. After the cause is controlled, use eye drops that promote corneal growth such as recombinant bovine fibroblast growth factor eye drops.
