Is leek a photosensitive food? Can I eat more of it?

Many people have eaten leeks, but most people don’t know whether leeks can be eaten frequently. Therefore, many people want to know whether leeks are photosensitive foods. Leeks are very good at replenishing blood, but for the sake of fair skin, try to control the amount of leeks you consume.

1. Leeks are photosensitive vegetables

The so-called photosensitive vegetables are vegetables that contain photosensitive substances. After being eaten, they enter the human body and produce photoallergic reactions with light, which increase the activity of melanocytes, easily causing the skin to tan or even sunburn. This type of vegetables includes gray vegetables, rapeseed, celery, leek, coriander, purslane, bamboo shoots, etc. It is best to eat photosensitive vegetables at night and try not to eat them during the day. This can avoid the photosensitive substances contained in the vegetables reacting with sunlight and reduce the risk of sunburn.

2. Simple method to distinguish photosensitive fruits and vegetables

Generally, fruits and vegetables with shiny surfaces are like this.

Celery, coriander, white radish, etc. are all "photosensitive" vegetables. These vegetables make the skin prone to spots more likely to develop spots. In the midsummer season, you should eat more vegetables and fruits that inhibit pigmentation and make your skin whiter, such as kiwi, strawberry, tomato, orange, cabbage, and cauliflower.

3. Others

Some foods contain photosensitive factors. After people eat them and expose them to sunlight or other strong light, the activity of melanocytes will increase, making the skin darker or have spots. These foods are called photosensitive foods.

Photosensitive foods include: lemon, white radish, papaya, celery, lettuce, potato, coriander, amaranth, rapeseed, eggplant, seaweed, snails, spinach, fig, basil, leek, red beans, and mango. Generally, if you want to have fair skin, you should eat less photosensitive food. You can also eat a small amount for dinner. After eating, you should not be exposed to strong light to prevent your skin from darkening.
