What causes epilepsy? There are 4 common causes

Epilepsy is a neurological disease caused by abnormal discharges in the brain. The causes of epilepsy are related to many factors, including genetics, trauma, lack of sleep, etc. The onset of epilepsy is not accidental, so pregnant mothers should have prenatal checkups.

1. For some epilepsy patients, seizures occur during sleep or just after waking up, while most patients have seizures during the day. Most epileptic seizures in infants occur during sleep. Psychomotor epilepsy (complex partial-onset epilepsy) also occurs primarily during sleep. Tonic-clonic seizures often occur in the early morning upon awakening. Sometimes continued lack of sleep can trigger an epileptic seizure.

2. At the same time, we should also know that some sudden events are also one of the factors that trigger epilepsy patients. Sudden events can easily cause strong emotional fluctuations in patients. When faced with certain sudden situations without any mental preparation, patients are subjected to certain mental stimulation, causing their brain nerves to become overly excited or tense, which in turn causes epileptic seizures.

3. Patients must pay attention to the main factors that cause epilepsy so that they can strengthen prevention. Alcoholism is also a cause of epilepsy in adults. Long-term and heavy drinking can cause gastritis, arrhythmia, hematopoietic and immune dysfunction, and most importantly, it is toxic to the nervous system, causing vitamin B1 deficiency in the body, resulting in metabolic disorders of brain tissue, brain atrophy, and epileptic seizures in adults. It may also lead to attention deficit and even dementia. Acute ethanol poisoning can directly cause epileptic seizures in adults.

4. Lack of sleep and excessive fatigue are also one of the causes of epileptic seizures. As an epilepsy patient, you should ensure adequate rest and sleep. We also do not recommend that patients with epilepsy engage in heavy physical labor or high-intensity exercise, as the heavy breathing and hyperventilation caused by these activities are also common causes of epilepsy.
