It turns out that bacterial food poisoning has so many symptoms

Bacterial food poisoning is a form of food poisoning, which is mostly caused by eating food that carries bacteria. Since there are many kinds of bacteria that can be carried by food in daily life, the symptoms of bacterial food poisoning are also different, but the incubation period generally does not exceed 36 hours.

1. Gastrointestinal food poisoning

The incubation period is short and the disease often occurs several hours after eating. The clinical manifestations of gastrointestinal food poisoning caused by various types of pathogens or their toxins are very similar, mainly gastroenteritis symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, and vomiting. The onset is generally acute, with abdominal discomfort, persistent or paroxysmal colic in the upper and middle abdomen, nausea and vomiting. Vomitus is mostly stomach contents. The course of the disease is short and most patients recover within 1 to 3 days.

1. Salmonella food poisoning

4 to 24 hours after eating, you will feel chills, your body temperature will rise to 38 to 39.5 degrees Celsius, you will experience nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, abdominal tenderness, watery diarrhea, sometimes with a small amount of pus and blood, and a fishy odor.

2. Vibrio parahaemolyticus food poisoning

If it is food poisoning caused by Vibrio parahaemolyticus, the patient will experience unbearable upper abdominal pain, diarrhea, watery stools and other symptoms nine to twenty hours after ingestion.

3. Proteus food poisoning

30 to 120 minutes after eating, you will feel headache, flushed skin, drunkenness, and urticaria-like allergic reaction.

4. Staphylococcal food poisoning

Symptoms include severe nausea and vomiting 2 to 5 hours after eating food containing staphylococcal toxins. The vomitus is mucus and sometimes contains blood and bile. Body temperature is normal or slightly elevated.

5. Botulism food poisoning

2 hours to 10 days after eating food containing botulinum toxin, the patient may feel double vision, drooping eyelids, paralysis of eye and pharyngeal muscles, difficulty breathing, and in severe cases, heart failure.

6. E. coli food poisoning

If it is E. coli food poisoning, the patient will experience nausea, vomiting and watery stools within 2 to 20 hours. Severe patients may also experience high fever, lethargy, dehydration and other symptoms.

2. Nervous food poisoning

The incubation period is usually 12 to 36 hours (2 hours to 10 days). The typical clinical manifestation is progressive nerve paralysis, mainly including dizziness, general fatigue, abdominal distension, constipation, nausea, and vomiting, followed by blurred vision, diplopia, mydriasis, eye muscle paralysis, and ptosis.

In severe cases, there are slurred speech, difficulty swallowing, chewing, pronunciation, drooling, hoarseness, difficulty breathing and paralysis of the limbs, as well as abdominal distension, urinary retention and decreased saliva.

In severe cases, the patient may be life-threatening within 2 to 3 days due to paralysis of the respiratory center and respiratory muscles. The body temperature is generally normal or with low fever, the patient is always conscious, radicular pain in the limbs rarely occurs, and tendon reflexes and cerebrospinal fluid are mostly normal. Recovery usually occurs gradually over 4 to 10 days, with improvement in swallowing and breathing difficulties first. Muscle paralysis may last for several months, and vision often takes several months to recover.
