What are the dangers of thyroid nodules? Are they serious?

The thyroid gland is an important gland in our body and an endocrine organ. If thyroid nodules appear, they pose a great threat to the body's internal environment. If thyroid nodules are not taken seriously, the following hazards may occur.

1. Are thyroid nodules serious? Not every patient with thyroid nodules has prominent symptoms, and some do not feel pain or itching, so we tend to ignore thyroid nodules. Once this happens, we will not be able to actively detect the patient's condition or actively treat it, which will be very harmful to our lives and work. Thyroid nodules can be seen in men and women of all ages, but they are more common in middle-aged women. Thyroid nodules can be single or multiple. The incidence of multiple nodules is higher than that of single nodules, and the detection rate of thyroid cancer is higher in single nodules than in multiple nodules.

2. The clinical prevalence of thyroid nodules is getting higher and higher. They can be single or multiple. The phenomenon can also be diffuse enlargement of the thyroid gland with multiple uneven surfaces, which is called nodular goiter. It is more common in patients with simple goiter with a long course of disease. Radionuclide imaging shows that there are several sparse vacuoles of different sizes in the bilateral lobes and isthmus, which are intertwined with normal thyroid tissue, but still maintain their basic morphology.

3. Once this type of thyroid nodule disease is discovered, the doctor will use a needle biopsy or other diagnostic tests to decide whether to provide treatment. However, even if a small nodule is found to be cancerous, there is no need to panic, because the vast majority of thyroid cancers grow slowly, are not very harmful, and are usually not discovered for a long time.

4. As the nodules increase and grow larger, symptoms of respiratory compression may even be found in severe cases. Once a thyroid nodule becomes malignant, you may experience discomfort such as neck pain, tightness, and rapid enlargement of the tumor. However, occasionally there may be bleeding in benign thyroid nodules, and the tumor may suddenly increase in size and cause local swelling and pain. Therefore, you need to carefully identify the cause and do not panic; go to the hospital for further examination.
