What are the treatments for ureteral stones

Ureteral stones are also a common disease, and the treatment method should be selected scientifically to solve the symptoms. For example, there are Chinese medicine stone removal treatments and extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy treatments. The treatment must be based on the symptoms.

(I) Symptomatic treatment: mainly to control renal colic. After a clear diagnosis, analgesics can be injected intramuscularly, hot compresses or acupuncture can be applied to the painful area, and subcutaneous procaine blockade can be performed on the sensitive area of the waist (do a skin test first).

(ii) Traditional Chinese medicine stone removal treatment: Suitable for urinary stones with a diameter of less than 1 cm. People with urinary stones can drink Defu Yuqi tea to help remove stones.

(III) Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy: This treatment uses a Dornier-type X-ray-guided machine and has expanded from upper ureteral stones to middle and lower ureteral stones. For upper ureteral stones, the oblique semi-recumbent position should be adopted. For stones in the overlapping area of the iliac wing, the prone position should be adopted. The semi-sitting position can be adopted for the lower part to increase the voltage, and a certain success rate can be achieved in both cases.

(IV) Although stones in any part of the ureter can be crushed with extracorporeal shock waves, it is sometimes difficult to locate stones in patients with small stones or who are obese, and the stones are deep and require a lot of energy. Compared with crushing kidney stones, crushing ureteral stones is relatively more difficult and the overall effect is worse than that of crushing kidney stones.

(V) Therefore, it is necessary to improve the accuracy of positioning during shock wave. For those who have difficulty, excretory urography or retrograde cystoscopic catheterization and urography can be performed simultaneously to assist in positioning. It would be ideal if the stone could be pushed into the renal pelvis and then shock wave treatment could be performed. Contrast agents that can pass through stones are often easily shattered and expelled. On the contrary, even if the stone is not large, but there is obvious water accumulation on it, especially when accompanied by periureteritis, or the retrograde catheter cannot reach under the stone, the effect of shock wave lithotripsy is often not good. Experts say that for smaller stones in the lower ureter, ureteral dilation, stone removal and tube opening can be performed through cystoscopy.
