1. Cut the onion under running water. Cutting onions under running water can control the volatilization of gases in the onions, but although this does not irritate the eyes, it is a waste of water. This trick is not recommended.

2. Refrigerate the onions. Put the onions in the refrigerator before cutting them. Take them out after 5-10 minutes and then cut them. The irritating smell will evaporate less and you won’t shed tears when cutting them.

3. Chew gum. There is a small hole in the lower eyelid near the bridge of the nose, which is connected to the bridge of the nose and throat and is used to drain excess tears. The spicy gas produced when cutting onions irritates the eyes and increases the tear secretion of the lacrimal glands. When chewing gum, the upper and lower jaws open and close continuously, creating negative pressure inside that draws tears into the mouth through this small hole. This way there will be no extra tears in the eyes and you won't cry.

4. Bite the chopsticks. When cutting onions, hold the chopsticks horizontally in your mouth so that tears will not flow out. This is because the inside of your mouth will become dry when you hold the chopsticks in your mouth, and the body will secrete saliva. Compared to the tears that flow out when cutting onions, the saliva will flow out first, so it has the effect of inhibiting tears.

5. Soak the onions in cold water. If you don't put the onion in the refrigerator, remove the head and tail of the onion, cut it in half and soak it in cold water for 10 minutes, which will have the same effect.

6. Heat in the microwave for 20 seconds. Before cutting onions, heat them in the microwave for 20 seconds. Wrap the onions in plastic wrap and heat them. Heating them is said to spoil the irritating ingredients in the onions.

7. Cut onions while wearing swimming goggles. Swimming goggles have a better effect of sealing the eyes, so when you cut onions, no irritants will evaporate into the eyes.

8. Use a wet knife to cut onions. It is also a good idea to use a wet knife to cut onions, and to rinse the knife frequently before cutting. Before cutting onions, it is best to apply some vegetable oil on the kitchen knife so that you won’t shed tears when cutting.

9. Light a candle next to the cutting board. When cutting onions, you can light a candle next to the cutting board to reduce the pungent smell of onions. The effect is good! Put a spoonful of salt on the chopping board to avoid eye irritation.

10. Stuff with tissue paper. Although it is not very elegant, it is the simplest secret. Please stuff tissues into your nostrils.
