What is the reason for numbness in hands and feet? Be alert to physical diseases

If you often experience numbness in your hands and feet, don't take it lightly. Many diseases can cause numbness in your hands and feet, such as common diabetes, which is also a common disease nowadays. The second most common disease is bone and joint diseases, which are most common among the elderly.

1. Diabetes

When suffering from diabetes, the increase in blood sugar causes a series of metabolic disorders in nerve fibers, including energy and material metabolism disorders, which lead to swelling and even degeneration of nerve fibers, thus causing peripheral neuropathy.

Symptoms: Peripheral neuropathy is mainly manifested by numbness and pain in the extremities, with a tingling, burning or crawling sensation. It is usually more severe in the lower limbs than in the upper limbs and may occur simultaneously or successively on both sides of the limbs. Typically, it is distributed in a glove or sock-like pattern. Sometimes it manifests as hyperalgesia, with obvious pain felt after very slight stimulation. In severe cases, pain may be felt even when putting on clothes or covering with a quilt.

2. Bone and joint diseases

Osteoarthritis is a chronic joint disease characterized by local articular cartilage degeneration, bone loss, bone spur formation at the joint edges, joint deformities and subchondral bone density. It is also known as osteoarthritis, degenerative osteoarthritis, proliferative arthritis and senile arthritis.

Long-term illness can cause damage to the nerves around the bones and joints, or insufficient supply can cause numbness in the hands and feet.

3. Drug effects

Numbness caused by drugs or chemicals. For example, if you have a cold or diarrhea, taking berberine or furazolidone may cause numbness in your hands and feet; numbness in your hands and feet may also occur if you stay in an environment containing hydrogen, arsenic, carbon disulfide, etc. for a long time.

4. Numbness of hands and feet caused by neuritis

The most common symptoms of neuritis are numbness of hands and feet, muscle atrophy, and weakness in the limbs. If you have diarrhea or a cold for half a month, it will cause neuritis.
