What causes hydronephrosis

Knowing the causes of hydronephrosis, we can better prevent the occurrence of this disease in our lives. Congenital hydronephrosis is more often caused by mechanical obstruction, while acquired hydronephrosis may be caused by lesions, tumors, and polyps caused by obstruction.

1. Congenital hydronephrosis

It is mostly caused by mechanical obstruction, the main reasons are:

1. Ectopic blood vessels: such as compression from the vagal vessels at the lower pole of the kidney.

2. Fiber strips.

3. High insertion of ureteropelvic cavity.

4. Obstruction of ureteropelvic junction (UPJO) and valve.

5. Local ureteral tortuosity caused by membranous adhesions. Congenital hydronephrosis can also be caused by dynamic causes, such as segmental adynamic dysfunction.

Secondary hydronephrosis

Most of them are caused by other diseases of the urinary system. The primary disease can usually be found through routine examinations. Some diseases require special examinations (such as CT, magnetic resonance imaging, etc.) to be clearly diagnosed. These diseases mainly include:

1. Obstructive lesions of the upper urinary tract, tumors, polyps, stones, tuberculosis, inflammation, injury, deformity, diverticulum, renal ptosis, etc.

2. Compression of the external upper urinary tract, abdominal, pelvic or retroperitoneal masses, idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis, ectopic blood vessels, and ovarian vein compression caused by congestion during pregnancy and menstruation.

3. Lower urinary tract obstructive lesions, prostatic hyperplasia, prostate cancer, urethral stenosis, vesicoureteral reflux, etc.
