What are dentures

What are dentures

As we get older, our teeth will have various problems. If we have problems with our teeth, it will be difficult for us to eat. In today's advanced society, various types of dentures have appeared. They are named according to their different materials and production methods. Each denture has its own characteristics. It can help us replace teeth. So what are dentures? Let me give you a brief introduction to dentures.

Dentures are what people often call "false teeth", just like we call "prosthetic limbs" fake legs and artificial limbs in our lives. There are two types of dentures, one is removable and the other is fixed.

1. Removable dentures: Dentures that patients can put on and take off by themselves. They are suitable for situations where most teeth are missing and there are few remaining teeth. The advantage is that patients can take it off for cleaning, which puts less burden on the remaining teeth. However, it also has many inconveniences such as low chewing efficiency and the need for patients to take it off for cleaning after meals.

2. Fixed dentures: Use the healthy teeth on both sides of the missing teeth as support to fix the dentures in the mouth. It is suitable for situations where a few teeth are missing, intermittent teeth are missing, and the remaining teeth are in good health. The advantages are that fixed dentures have high chewing efficiency, are comfortable for patients to wear, have little foreign body sensation, and do not need to be removed. The disadvantage is that during the restoration, some tooth tissue of the healthy teeth on both sides of the missing tooth must be removed before a full crown restoration can be performed.

3. Dental implants: This is a newer technology that has developed rapidly in recent years. The method is to implant the implant in the alveolar bone. After the implant and the alveolar bone form bone fusion, the tooth is placed on the implant. However, dental implants require the patient to be in good general health and the alveolar bone to have a certain height and width. Dental implants are comfortable and beautiful to use, and do not damage adjacent teeth, but they are expensive.

The above is a brief introduction to dentures that I have given you. I believe that everyone has a certain basic understanding of what dentures are. In this way, everyone will know some basic knowledge when choosing dentures and it will also be much more convenient. People who wear dentures must take good care of their dentures. We can use denture cleaning items to carefully clean each tooth.
