What is below the left side of the belly button

Everyone has a belly button. Below our belly button are our stomach, intestines, large intestine, small intestine, appendix and cecum, which are very important to us. Nowadays, many people often have gastrointestinal problems due to bad eating habits, and they will feel pain, bloating and extreme discomfort below the belly button. So do you want to clearly understand what is below the left side of the belly button? How to treat pain?

The colon is the part between the cecum and the rectum. According to its location and shape, it is divided into four parts: the ascending colon, transverse colon, descending colon and sigmoid colon.

(1) The ascending colon is about 15 cm long and is the upward continuation of the cecum. It rises from the right iliac fossa along the right side of the posterior abdominal wall, bends left in the direction below the liver to form the right flexure of the colon, and then transitions to the transverse colon. The posterior part of the ascending colon is attached to the posterior abdominal wall by connective tissue, so it has less mobility.

(2) The transverse colon is about 50 cm long. It starts from the right flexure of the colon, runs horizontally to the left to the spleen, then bends downward to become the left flexure of the colon and transfers to the descending colon. The entire transverse colon is covered by peritoneum and connected to the posterior abdominal wall by the transverse colon mesentery. The middle part is sagging and has greater mobility.

(3) The descending colon is about 20 cm long. It starts from the left flexure of the colon, descends along the left side of the posterior abdominal wall, and transitions to the sigmoid colon at the left iliac crest. The back of the descending colon is attached to the posterior abdominal wall by connective tissue, so it has little mobility.

(4) The sigmoid colon is about 40-45 cm long. It connects to the descending colon at the level of the left iliac crest and curves in the shape of an “I” until it reaches the front of the third sacral vertebra and becomes the rectum. When empty, its front is often covered by the small intestine; when full and expanded, it can be touched in the left iliac fossa. The sigmoid colon is completely covered by peritoneum and is connected to the left iliac fossa and the posterior wall of the small pelvis by the sigmoid colon mesentery, and it has great mobility.

In the above article, we introduced a common symptom, which is pain in the lower left part of the belly button. We know that the lower left part of the belly button is actually the colon of our human body. In our daily life, we must protect our colon well to avoid diseases.
