The role of hearing aids

The role of hearing aids

Hearing aids are an auxiliary device that is used frequently in daily life. The main function of a hearing aid is to combine various sound transmissions to achieve an amplification effect, which can allow many people with hearing impairments to hear the sounds of the outside world again and help many patients with ear problems. Hearing aids have many uses and ranges, and they also have switches and batteries used in amplifiers. The structure of a hearing aid is very complex.

How it works

There are many different names for hearing aids, but all electronic hearing aids work in the same way. Any hearing aid consists of 6 basic structures.

1. A microphone receives sound and converts it into radio waves, that is, it converts sound energy into electrical energy.

2. Amplifier amplifies electrical signals (transistor amplifier circuit)

3. Headphones (receivers) convert electrical signals into sound signals (that is, convert electrical energy into sound energy).

4. The ear mold (ear plug) is placed in the external auditory canal.

5. Volume control switch

6. Power supply: dry cell batteries for the amplifier.

In addition to the six components mentioned above, most models of hearing aids have three accessories, or three additional circuits (tone control, induction coil, and output limiting control). Modern electronic hearing aids are amplifiers whose function is to increase the intensity of sound energy and transmit it to the ear with as little distortion as possible.

Since the acoustic energy of sound cannot be amplified directly, it is necessary to convert it into an electrical signal, amplify it and then convert it into acoustic energy. The input transducer consists of a microphone (microphone or receiver), a magnetic induction coil and other parts. Its function is to convert the input sound energy into electrical energy and transmit it to the amplifier.

The amplifier amplifies the input electrical signal and then transmits it to the output transducer. The output transducer is composed of headphones or bone conduction vibrators, and its function is to convert the amplified signal from electrical energy into sound energy or kinetic energy output. The power supply is an indispensable part of providing working energy for the hearing aid. In addition, it is also equipped with peak clipping (PC) or automatic gain control (AGC) devices to meet the needs of patients with different degrees of deafness.

How In-the-Ear and In-the-Canal Hearing Aids Work

In-ear hearing aids can be specifically divided into the following categories according to their appearance: in-ear type (ITE), ear canal type (ITC or CC), mini ear canal type (MITC), and invisible deep ear canal type (CIC or TYM). But since they are all worn in the ear, they are also referred to as in-ear hearing aids.

Features of in-ear hearing aids: fits the individual's ear; easy to put on or take off the hearing aid; makes full use of the sound collection function of the outer ear; comfortable to wear; less noticeable; can use the phone in the normal way; can also be worn when you sleep; can be customized according to your hearing needs.
