Can heart failure be cured?

Heart failure is a relatively common cardiovascular disease, which occurs more frequently in the elderly. So, can heart failure be cured? What are the better treatments for heart failure? What should we pay attention to in daily life? What kind of food should we eat to regulate and prevent it? Let's take a look at some basic knowledge about heart failure, I believe it will be of some help to everyone.

Limit fat

Obese people should pay attention to controlling their fat intake, which should be (40g to 60g) per day. Because fat produces high heat energy, it is not conducive to digestion and stays in the stomach for a long time, making the stomach bloated and uncomfortable. Too much fat can inhibit gastric acid secretion and affect digestion. It may also surround the heart and compress the myocardium. Or too much abdominal fat may cause the diaphragm to rise and compress the heart, causing stuffiness and discomfort.

Limit sodium intake

To prevent and reduce edema, a low-salt, salt-free, or low-sodium diet should be selected according to the condition of the disease. Low salt means 2 grams of table salt per day for cooking; the sodium content of table salt is 391 mg/g, or equivalent to 10 ml of soy sauce. The sodium content of side dishes per day should be less than 1500 mg. Salt-free: no salt or soy sauce is added during cooking, and the sodium content in the main and side dishes throughout the day is less than 70 mg. Low sodium means that except for not adding salt and soy sauce during cooking, foods with sodium content below 100 mg% should be used, and the sodium content of staple and non-staple foods throughout the day should be less than 500 mg. When taking large amounts of diuretics, the amount of salt should be increased appropriately to prevent hyponatremia syndrome.

Potassium intake

As mentioned previously, potassium imbalance is one of the most common electrolyte disturbances in congestive heart failure. The most common clinical condition is potassium deficiency, which mainly occurs due to insufficient intake (such as malnutrition, lack of appetite and malabsorption), additional loss (such as vomiting, diarrhea, malabsorption syndrome), renal loss (such as kidney disease, hyperadrenocortical function, metabolic alkali poisoning, diuretic therapy) and other conditions (such as parenteral nutrition, dialysis, etc.). Potassium deficiency can cause intestinal paralysis, severe arrhythmia, respiratory paralysis, etc., and can easily induce digitalis poisoning, resulting in serious consequences. Therefore, patients who are taking diuretics for a long time should be encouraged to eat more foods and fruits with high potassium content, such as bananas, oranges, dates, papayas, etc. If necessary, potassium supplementation should be given, or potassium excretion can be used in combination with potassium-sparing diuretics, or with diuretic Chinese herbal medicines with high potassium content, such as Centella asiatica, Alfalfa, Akebia, Prunella Vulgaris, Achyranthes bidentata, Corn Silk, Houttuynia cordata, Poria, etc.

Carbohydrate intake

The supply is (300g ~ 350g)/day because it is easy to digest, stays in the stomach for a short time, and empties quickly, which can reduce the pressure on the heart caused by stomach expansion. It is advisable to choose foods containing starch and polysaccharides, and avoid excessive sucrose and sweet desserts to prevent bloating, obesity and increased triglycerides.

Vitamin supplements

Patients with congestive heart failure generally have poor appetite, and a low-sodium diet lacks taste, so the diet should be rich in multiple vitamins, such as fresh vegetables, green leafy vegetable juice, hawthorn, fresh dates, strawberries, bananas, oranges, etc., and vitamin B and C should be supplemented orally when necessary. Vitamin B1 deficiency can lead to beriberi heart disease and induce high-output congestive heart failure. Folic acid deficiency can cause heart enlargement with congestive heart failure.

Can heart failure be cured? Above are some basic knowledge about heart failure and what you should pay attention to in your daily life. Through the above introduction, it is not difficult to find that as long as heart failure is discovered early, it can be alleviated through dietary adjustments. In severe cases, the symptoms of heart failure can be alleviated through surgery.
