Can I drink green tea after it expires?

Many people always have some tea leaves at home. Some people like to drink tea very much. They usually drink some tea water at regular times. Some people wait until there are guests at home before taking out the tea leaves to drink. It is easy for the tea leaves to expire. However, sometimes the tea leaves bought are more expensive, and they are reluctant to throw them away after they expire. So can they still drink them?

Green tea cannot be consumed after its expiration date. Of course, although you can't drink it, green tea has other benefits. Function 1: Fertilizer. Brewed tea leaves can be used as fertilizer to promote plant growth and make the leaves greener and more shiny. Function 2: Dehumidifier and deodorant. Pour some expired tea leaves into a container and place it in a moisture-proof place such as a refrigerator or a drawer. After a period of time, it will slowly begin to expand due to the absorption of moisture, and it will also emit a light tea fragrance and have a deodorizing effect.

Usually, the shelf life of sealed packaged tea ranges from 12 to 24 months, which will be indicated on the tea bag. The shelf life of bulk tea is even shorter, so when purchasing, try to buy new tea of the year.

At the same time, it also depends on the degree of fermentation of the tea. Pu'er tea is a fully fermented tea, so of course it tastes better the longer it is stored. Tieguanyin is a semi-fermented tea, so its shelf life cannot be stored like Pu'er tea. If you want to keep it for a long time before drinking it, it is recommended that you put the sealed tea leaves in the refrigerator. This way it can be stored longer. It doesn’t affect the taste either.

The shelf life of tea is related to the variety of tea, and different teas have different shelf lives. Pu'er tea, black tea, etc. are fully fermented products with a shelf life of 10 to 20 years. As long as tea is stored properly, it will not deteriorate but its quality will improve.

Generally speaking, try not to drink tea after its expiration date, because food like tea is very easy to mold after its expiration date. We all know the harm that mold can cause to the body after drinking it, so we must pay attention to the expiration date. It does not necessarily have to be thrown away after it expires. It has some other benefits.
