What should we pay attention to when doing bilateral carotid artery ultrasound?

With the continuous advancement of technology, mobile phone screens are getting bigger and bigger. People nowadays are becoming more and more lazy. According to a survey, more people use their mobile phones to watch TV than those who like to watch TV. They carry their mobile phones with them wherever they go, and some even play with them for two or three hours without moving. This leads to poor blood circulation and damage to the cervical vertebrae. In normal times, whether you sit for a long time or play with your mobile phone for a long time, you should get up and exercise your neck and waist, and you can also look into the distance to protect your eyesight.

Examination preparation: 1. No need to fast before the examination.

2. Before entering the examination room, turn off your mobile phone and pager, and do not make calls in the examination room to avoid interference of electromagnetic signals on the instruments. 3. Patients who have just finished relatively strenuous exercise need to rest for 5-10 minutes and then be examined after their breathing and heart rate are relatively stable.

How to check: The patient lies supine with a thin pillow behind the neck and the head slightly raised to fully expose the neck. During the examination, the neck should be relaxed and the head should be tilted about 45 degrees toward the opposite side of the examiner. The doctor places the probe on your neck so that it touches the skin directly. Generally, the inner diameter of the carotid artery, the vascular wall, the thickness of the intima-media membrane, the presence of plaques, the shape, size, and nature of the plaques, and whether the lumen is narrowed and to what extent can be observed.

What symptoms should prompt this examination? (1) Visual abnormalities: transient blackouts, monocular blindness (partial or complete loss of light perception), blurred vision, or complete blindness; (2) Headache; (3)

Transient confusion; (4) Unilateral limb weakness: numbness or dysfunction of one upper or lower limb, facial and tongue muscles, or hemisensory disturbances such as numbness; (5)

Language disorders: unclear language expression, or aphasia (inability to speak).

I believe you are also curious. I know that you should take an ultrasound before pregnancy. Now that technology is more and more advanced, it has explored more about human beings than before.

Bilateral carotid artery color Doppler ultrasound sounds like an ordinary thing, but there is a lot of knowledge involved, and there are even some things that we have not discovered yet.
